The concept of Ethics was born long before organized religion. Religion incorporated ethics -- not the other way around. So much for the argument that one needs religion to be ethical....

God is a holy righteous loving being. There is no evil in Him and no matter where or when someone is born God,[ who does not change] wants nothing but the best for all. We need just call out to Him and in His time, He will reveal exactly who He is. There is only one God. All the various faiths you mention [and there are many more], each have a different belief into who God is. Only one can be correct. I'm not referring to the things that man has added on to this true God. There is only one way, one door that leads to this one true God. All the rest of that negative stuff you mention will be dealt with, if HE wants to. Lastly, these "good" guys you mention may be great up against many others including me [and they probably are]. But other humans are not the standard by which God measures us by. His standard is a Man, who never sinned and is now seated to His right. The bible says there is none that does good [100%] of the time. We can't because we were born with a sin nature, prone to fail. No matter how hard you and I try not to, we will sin before this day is done. Remember, man looks at the outward [your description of John and Jake] , but God looks at the heart. Anybody seeking what is the true way to believe, simply need to talk to God [don't know His name at this stage] only believe that there is a God and ask Him to lead you down the correct path of what is true. If anyone would be willing to at least go that far[nothing to lose]. Then at some point this God will give exact definition to who and what He is. Anyone who refuses to at least do this much, can't blame God for where they end up. They did it to themselves. God gave us each the ability to choose. If He wanted yes men or robots, He would have made them. Since someone may be wondering, a legit question. If is born without the capacity to choose they will be safe, just like infants that die, they will both be awesome healthy mature beings in the next life. I quoted no verses but they are all in there. I don't want removed from site. will see or will not see.

Ethics are born form morality and morality is born from religion. So by extention yes...ethics are the rpoduct of religious belief. This means that when you follow ethical principals, you are following the religions belief of the person (or persons) that propogated that particulay ethical principle. Same goes for following moral precepts as well.

Everything in life has an impact on your ethics. If you are of a religious background, your religion does have quite a strong influence on your ethics but all of the above form the ethics one holds for themselves!

Ethics was born out of the Law = the first religion or church. See Old Testament.

It is the nature of religion to take credit for all that is good, and blame others for all that is bad, ethics included. IT is absurd to think that people only choose to behave decently out of religious pressure.

Interesting Question, here is one.
If God does not exist, then what is right and what is wrong?
If it is a matter of opinion, who's?
If it is decided by society, how?
Take both questions all the way back to the beginning of recorded human history and answer.
If you or someone says for example that you cannot legislate morality, then I ask, I s murder againat the law? you will pf course say yes, well then, it would seem like you just legislated morality, Morality is legislated everyday in our courtrooms, the only difference is , who's morality will you legislate.
Oh, and by-the-way, there is no verifyable evidence that Ethics was born long before organized religion regardless of what la buena bruja says

we've had social systems way longer than we've had religious systems. Parents, lovers, friends, peers, our surrounding society and the time we occupy, this is what determines our sense of right and wrong, and this is why the morals of our society change over time (see slavery, homosexuality, the list is long. Both examples were acceptable/unacceptable not too long ago)

I act and think as I wish, and it is not borne of religion. If anything look at the "ethics" of so-called Christians.... Little boy loving priests, a christian president who thinks its OK to kill people without a second thought, The "oh-so christian" love for gays.. The holocaust was in the name of Christianity. These are not ethics to me..
