Could Jesus really walk on water, turn water into wine, heal the sick and raise the dead or did the Gospel writers exaggerate or invent his miracles in order to write a great story? (I don't need a lecture, I just want to hear what you believe.)

Could they have invented it? Maybe. But would they have died for it? Probably not. Would you die for something you KNEW was a lie, like all but one of Jesus's disciples did?
Also, because of where the Gospels were mainly written (Jerusalem), if even ONE detail had been invented, the Jews and Romans would have been only too happy to point it out, and Christianity would never have thrived.
Based upon the historical writings of the time, it can be assumed that since Christianity EXPLODED on the scene the way it did, that the Gospels tell the truth.
Besides, since it's been proven repeatedly that the minor historical details (preserved VERY carefully) were entirely accurate, it is apparent that the purpose of the Gospels was not to invent, but to record.

This is not what I believe. This is what I KNOW. I could not have come to Christianity otherwise. I'm not the type of person that can rely on faith alone.

As for the person who said there was a huge gap between when the Gospels were written, and the time that Jesus lived, since when is ten years a huge gap? The history of Alexander wasn't even written until five hundred years after his death, and people consider that to be more accurate than the Gospels.
Besides, the creed in 1 Corinthians 15 dates back to the VERY earliest days of Christianity. It was written within 2-5 years of Jesus's ascension.

Jesus was a real person and did perform all the miracles attributed to him.

What he didn't do was create a new religion. In his own words, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." [ Matthew 5:17 ]

Jesus was a Jew and in his statement above, he means the laws and the prophets mentioned in the Torah. Jesus was a living example of the universal spiritual laws, the same Spiritual truths that abound in all major religions that were created thousands of years before his time.

The Romans, master military tacticians that they were at the time, with the Crucifixion of Jesus, saw an opportunity to unite the lands they conquered under a common religion. They coined the term "Christianity", made Rome the seat of it, and then embarked on a massive marketing campaign to spread the "New Religion" with the "Bible" being nothing but a collection of excerpts from what were just diary of events written by the different apostles. The result: Today the Vatican is the richest organisation in the world. For the Romans, Christianity was no more than a sociopolitical ploy to create a "Holy Roman Empire".

However, this does not take anything away from the fact that Jesus was a man of the highest spiritual attainment, much like the numerous world prophets who lived before him.

Jesus was a real person - Both His Story and history backs up the fact that He existed and lived some 2000 years ago.

It doesn't matter if you are a Christian or not or even if you believe that Jesus did miracles, Jesus is an historical figure, He is mentioned in various secular document, Josephus for example.
I believe that Jesus was the Man spoken about in the Gospels, including all the miracles and even the Resurrection on that first Easter Sunday; that is my belief. I could go on but this is not the place for that.

Yes, hecame down from Heaven in a humanly body form so he could die on the cross of calvery so that we might ("Might" means that you got to have faith in him and devote your self to him and stop all the worldly things that goes on in your life) be saved and have ever lasting life in Heaven with him !!!
He did walk on water . He did turn water into wine . He did heal the sick AND he shure did raise the dead !!! If You got a BIBLE , read that and it will tell you !!!
and if you dont believe me and the Bible Ask Jesus ...He never lies...

Well considering that Jesus does not only play a role in Christianity alone but also Judaism and Islam. I think the likelihood of him being "real" is pretty much 100% bcos you have evidence from the Torah, Bible and Quran and commentarys made alongside them too.

Hi Robbie,
According to historical writers, all of the Apostles except John were tortured and killed for their belief in Christ as martyrs. They refused to recant those "stories" even though they were brutally butchered and killed inhumanely. Saul had strong Jewish beliefs until his encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus. I truly believe that GOD inspired the writings and Christ was the True Jewish Messiah of the Old Testament Prophesies. HE met all of the requirements there and there were a number of people who not only saw his miracles but followed HIM and listened to every word that came from HIS Mouth. There were a number of people that saw HIM after HE arose from the grave and watched HIM ascend into heaven. Have a great day and a wonderful week!
Thanks,
Eds

I don't think people would have suffered terrible deaths if it was not true! Scripture says he did all these things and still many did not believe, so they are not trying to hide anything. If you build your house on sand it will fall, the house of Jesus is built on the rocks, and is still here until he returns, which could be any time. It's your choice what you believe.

It is my belief that the Romans took the story of a person called Jesus and the folklore surrounding him, and then blew it out of proportion in order to keep the roman empire under control.

The way I see it, at one point the Roman Empire was in control of a large portion of Europe, some of Africa and the Middle East, full of different people, relegions, beliefs, customs. The Empire found it difficult to keep control, with so many different forms of paganism to contend with, they could not connect with the peoples who's lands they occupied. So they took the story of Jesus, who I believe was a real man, and twisted it to make Jesus's word seem to be law, they then took this around the occupied countries. People no longer thought they were obeying the law of the romans, but instead the law of a new God.

My reasons for thinking this. Look at the Christian Relegion, it appears to be harsh set of rules and doctrines, and yet the gaps are filled in with Elements of the Old Pagan relegions. We already know how much the romans wanted to wipe our relegious opposition because of what they did at Anglesey, wiping out the entire Druid population of Britain.

Christmas, the Birth of Jesus, interestingly enough at the same time as the Pagan festival of Yule. Easter, Jesus's rebirth, anyone think it strange that this festival comes at exactly the same time of year as a holy Pagan time of, wait for it, rebirth and new growth? Easter itself is named after the Saxon/Norse Goddess Eostre.

Thats my reasoning, I know many people wont agree with me, but meh.

well, without Jesus there would be no Christianity or Catholisism! I believe Jesus was real, there is some proof too.

Also, i dont think they would have just invented Jesus. Catholisism has been around from before the medieval ages. Christianity came from Catholisism when this guy, i think it was Martin Luther, learnt Latin
(only priests knew latin, everyone else just went to church to go and they only knew english)
anyway, Luther learnt Latin and then read the bible. He found out Catholisism was all wrong. The priests were lying. So he wrote an english bible and taught the real thing which was Christianity. Thats where the protestants came from.
The Chrisitans were protesting against the Catholics.

Lol. hope this helped :P
