Why do we have to believe in something?

If you want to play with semantics, I believe in myself, I believe in leading a good life and contributing to leaving the world a better place than the one you came into, etc.

But as for religious beliefs...........no , we don't need to believe in anything, and niether do you.

Perhaps you should visit a few atheist websites and gain a better understand of why we don't feel the need to believe in anything.

I believe that the universe came about by natural processes, as did life. I believe that in the human sense of the word there is no 'point' or 'goal' to life, as that is a human concept. I believe that we are social animals, and that you as much as I am bound by the web of love and trust between parents & siblings, lovers and friends, peers and colleagues, and that it is this that gives us our sense of right and wrong and keeps us in line, even though you seem to think these commands come from some supernatural being.

I believe this is a enormous planet with mostly decent people trying to get by and with unbelievable amounts of interesting things on it.

I believe in myself.
I am solely responsible for my life and my actions and my decisions. There is no such thing as divine intervention and to believe so is tantamount to madness. At least a dangerous level of delusion.
God/Allah is imaginary. A man-made invention. Nothing more. Is that not easy to understand? Doesn't it make all the questions about life really simple? No magic. No invisibility. Just not there.

No, I don't have to believe. What makes you think we do?

I reserve the right to change my mind if I am presented with new facts that contradict what I thought to be true.

I believe the universe is. That is pretty much it. The only meaning is that which we ascribe to it, but no more.
