Anyone can convert to Judaism- regardless of their nationality or previous affiliation. For an orthodox conversion the process is complicated- two or more years of classes (you actually have to know something about Jewish law before agreeing to accept it), circumcision for a man and mikveh (immersion in a ritual bath f) for both men and women. Conservative and Reform conversions are much easier. But the bottom line is that anyone can convert- the stories that Jews have to be born Jewish are just that, stories fueled by ignorance.

It IS possible to convert to Judiasm. It is a difficult and arduous process, one to NOT be taken lightly. In truth, the most difficult part is gaining the acceptance of the Judaic community in order to accomplish this. They are, and rightly so, dubious of anyone that wants to convert TO judiasm, unless it is due to marriage or adoption. After all, Sammy Davis jr. converted back in the 60's or 70's and he was black. I have known a few that have done so, but not many. Truth to tell it is very dependant on the local community. Some are willing to accept those that they believe are sincere...others...they aren't having any part of it.

You are not so much converted as adopted. Then you are a member of the tribe. Perhaps Orthodox Jews do not adopt anyone else, but I have attended a class in conversion to Judaism, so I know it is done. The class was made up almost entirely of shiksas who had or were planning to marry a Jewish man. If she does not convert, then their children are not considered Jewish, since Jewishness passes from the mother, not the father. ("Mama's baby; daddy's maybe.")

Don't believe everything you hear. Many people are converting to Judaism these days, especially Catholics. They are all surprised that not only are questions allowed, they are encouraged!
I am a Jew-by-choice, but my children would be born Jews.

No; that is not true.
Scripture makes provision for one who wants to join their faith to that of the G-d of Abraham. Converts are welcomed.

An English soccer player wanted to play for a team in Israel - he had to become Jewish before they let him, so he had the painful job done first (ouch)! Then he converted fully.
