Why not search everything about the subject, religion and its history in particular, rather than blindly basing your life on that assumption and suffering and living in fear? Don't you think its a waste of time?

Also, don't you think its VERY unlikely they exist? And its just a way of controlling people. They cannot(government) control us with FORCE, but they can with MIND control and FEAR.
Even if heaven n hell exist, don't you agree the above makes A LOT MORE SENSE?

My god, their are some pretty naive answers...we know very little of our past.

Why is that? And what was that great flood? Who erased our old civilisation?

"Who controls the knowledge of our past controls the present, and who controls the present can shape the future "

Shibboleth, please, you push the boundaries of ignorance so far I feel like going on a fast as a self sacrifice for the harm that must have been done to you.
The big bang was pure energy, which created space, therefore time, then it cooled down and became matter. Not all matter is rock. Air is made of atoms too. Hdyrogen and oxygen simply make water. With heat, it allows more complex molecules to form, unicellular beings and so on. The rest is history.

Shauna, if you think people need a heaven to be good, then you don't believe we are conscious. Because as conscious beings, we have the ability to do good. We know what it is. We like it.
I wonder what YOU would do without the beleif in heaven. Pretty scary...

THE OLD DOG, Napolean said "religion is what keeps the poor from killing the rich". Don't kid yourself.
90% of people don't rebel BECAUSE of religion.

Wow, the answers on here make me think people are pathetically dumb.
I completely agree with you. There are some general lessons in the bible that are ok to learn from, but 99.9% of it is a hoax and mind/power/greed control...DO NOT QUESTION! DO NOT READ! DO NOT TRY TO DISCOVER! JUST HAVE FAITH AND BELIEVE! In other words, who cares that you have a brain, who cares that our purpose here is to ask questions, to ponder, to learn, to invent, to evolve...instead they like to make you close your mouth, become a servant to their ideas, of course pay big bucks to the church (always pay more and more) and then you are driven by fear of this man-made retarded 2nd grade concept of be good and go to heaven, be bad and you shall go to hell and be punished. I can not believe grown people seem to be living a life that sounds better suited for a preschool book, with BIG illustrations :)
It is very refreshing to see people like you exist today...Bush's fanatical brainwashing is really starting to bring us back to the dark ages...

Why do I believe in heaven and hell? Because the night my aunt died, my mom and I had the same vision, even though we did not yet know that my aunt had passed on.
In the dream, I was falling through a space that was completely black. I couldn't see anyone, I couldn't sense that there was a bottom to this abyss, but I could FEEL some sort of...entity brushing up against me. Maybe it was many entities. And I was crying out, though it must only have been audible to MY ears, "What am I doing here? I don't belong here!"
I woke up to the sound of the phone ringing (it was about 4 am), my heart pounding. I was TERRIFIED. Though terror doesn't come anywhere NEAR being able to describe what I really felt.
The fact that my mom and I BOTH had the same vision/dream, and the fact that we had it within minutes of my aunt passing away, should say something. Now it could be that I felt her terror while I was sleeping, and wound up becoming connected through that. OR we could have both been sent the same dream.

Either way, since that time, I've been convinced that there is a hell. And since there's a hell, I believe there must be a heaven.

You go ahead and believe what you want. You'll probably think I'm nuts, or I'm lying about all this. But I can assure you that I'm fairly emotionally stable, and I'm NOT lying. Not even stretching the truth a little.

There will come a time when we ALL know whether there's a heaven and hell, or if it's just been an invention of the human mind. I actually hope I'm wrong.

No way.

First off, if there is no heaven and no hell that means three things. No God, no Satan, and no morale.

We'll skip the first 2 and focus on morale. There has to be morale in order to get to heaven. So no heaven=no reason to be good. Therefore, anyone can rape and kill your sister, mom, cousin, girlfriend, best friend, etc. with no penalty. That seems unfair right? This would also mean that there would be no punishment for anyone because there is no right and wrong.

Unfortunately, the government did not propose the idea of heaven/hell (least of all "our' government). Our nation is only two century's old. The idea of a heaven/hell has been around for 6,000+ years. Government, under 6,000 years. Unlikely.

So no. I believe there is a heaven and hell.....it's not propaganda.

We would have no conscious if there was no price. We would be animals.

I bet you believe in gravity. I bet someone told you not to walk off a cliff. Because if you tested the theory yourself you would be dead.

Most people are taught by word of mouth from infancy...your parents were lax in their duty. If God did not exist we would have no hope. I have searched the scriptures, I have also studied mankind. The happiest people believe in God. And what I have learned is that heaven is where God lives and hell is the common grave of all mankind.

Doesn't it make more sense to believe that hell is the grave since we do believe in a resurrection?
Why would a loving God reward you with heaven or punish you with torture day and night...then bring you back to life with a new body to judge you again. If you were in heaven you would have already been found righteous. If you were in hell you would have already been condemned.

But the truth is.
God sits on his thrown in heaven. He calls earth his footstool. And since Jesus and Lazarus went to hell for days and did not come back with stories of torture then the bible is true when it says they fell asleep in death and were awaiting a resurrection.

If you have a child and you say to your child; if you listen to everything I say, and keep on working and shut up and never complain, be humble and submitted and happy with nothing...you will go to Disneland, but if you ever conradict me, and feel rebelious or doubt that I am better than you and deserve more than you, then I will send you to the poor orphanige, what kind of parenting is that, you tell me? It is not god, it is greed on earth speaking here, and we all know...where is the heaven and where is the hell on earth. We also all know that poor children no matter how good, don't go to Disneyland.

Very little in this world can be proven, nearly everything you or I believe wholly relies on at least one point of faith, not just the religious stuff but everything scientific. Most people go their whole lives not knowing one single thing to be proven, every "fact" they know is held up only by the trust they have in the people that teach them.

People believe in Heaven and Hell because they have no compelling reason not to believe.

Proof is not needed because (almost) nothing has any proof.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that evolution and the big bang are far greater leaps of faith than religion and the existence of God.

For example, it's a law of nature that life can only come from organic matter, yet science wants us to believe that life came from an inorganic rock with some proteins stuck to it.

Whenever you have to bend science to get nature to fit inside it, you know you're in trouble.

No I don't believe your theory is right my friend. I believe there is punishment for the evil and unrepentant. There is reward for the faithful and repentant.
I have no proof for you. But I see residuals of proof everywhere on earth. The evil we live by, and the good who try so desperately to correct, and mend the evil.
There has to be a place for one and the other.
Government control. They don't need religions, nor heaven or hell to control the lands, economies, and social structure. They have their Parliaments, and courts to do that.

NO, NO, and NO to everything you have stated. I have ALL THE PROOF I need by what the Lord has done for me by His Son on Calvary. I have Prayed and Studied the Word of God for many many years and have NEVER found anything that contradict His Word OR Promises to me. This is NOT mind control it is Love and Heart Control which goes hand in hand when it comes to MY Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I KNOW that He is Real, Loves me, and cares enough to have laid down His Life for me. He did it for ALL of Mankind, BUT for each one as an individual also. It is up to the individual to Accept Him or reject Him as NO ONE else has to answer for their life on Judgment Day. I have made this as simple as I know how. I am NOT saying you are Ignorant or Stupid, BUT this subject MUST BE clear in the explanation for those who may not understand Christ. There will be many that read this question and answer, and maybe, just maybe, someone will read it and ask Christ to come into their life, and Accept Him and be set free of Misery and Death, and the hand of Satan will not have an effect on them. They as like me, will have troubles in life, BUT we have ALL Power and Authority over Satan, and Death, Hell, and the Grave by the Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Death, Hell, and the Grave IS JUST another name for that disgusting being. He IS an Abomination to ALL of Gods Children, and his days are short. Praise God in the Highest.

Look, I ma an Athiest. I agree with you, but in a way I disagree. People tend to dislike Athiests beacuse they are under the impression that we shove our ideas onto others and try to make them change, sort of like you are now. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and we must accept it. If they live in fear of hell of the wrath of God, so be it, its is their rightful choice.
Please, don't push ideas onto others, it can only make things worse
