The Bible says that when one speaks in tongues, there must be someone to interpret. But, I have a problem.
When I have heard this "speaking in tongues", it sounded like gibberish. I thought, how can one interpret gibberish? But somone always came up with what they said was the interpretation.
I always wondered, do you REALLY know what you're "saying"? Aren't you ever afraid that you are really cursing God? After all, Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, so I would imagine he could also disguise himself as the Holy Spirit, making people say things that, if they really knew what they were saying, they would rather cut out their tongues than say it.
Do you speak in tongues? Interpret tongues? How do you know what you are saying, or that it's the truth?
What about where Paul says that one should seek the gift of prophecy rather than tongues, that tongues is only to edify the believers, or that UNKNOWN tongues is to be used only in the privacy of your room?

u said "A true believer would know immediately the difference." Of course you are right. This is also true of the true believers in the LDS church, who love truth, and would recognize the truth from lies. But we are told all the time that we are deceived by Satan, so if we can be deceived by him, so can all CHristians.
All the places where Paul speaks of speaking in tongues, he never says speaking in unknown tongues; as at Pentecost, I must assume that he is referring to speaking in KNOWN tongues, since that is the only way an interpreter would KNOW what is being said.

I don't believe there is any danger they are cursing God, if the love of God is in their hearts. On the other hand, I agree with you that most of the time, if not all, it is gibberish. It seems that the miraculous gift of tongues was given as a sign to the unbelieving Jews. It is debated whether or not it would continue to exist today. I believe the interpreter in the New Testament would have been someone who actually knew the language. Otherwise, how could they "test the spirits"?
Those who "speak in tongues" today are not necessarily just making it up. They strongly believe in it, they have had a very deep emotional experience that they related to receiving the gift of tongues, and for certain types of emotional personalities, they are simply able to fall into that gibberish. I don't believe it is harmful What is harmful is the teaching that a person does not have the Holy Spirit, or doesn't have Him "fully" unless he speaks in tongues.

If Christians would stick tot he Bible as they shouldthere would be no tongues today or Pentacostal church. I challange anyone to speak in tongues as it was done in the Bible. It just doesn't happen. So to get around it they just make up a new doctrine. Fortunately true Bible believers don't accept it.

It is a big issue. I should say you are very clear on your bible reading. However, I am a bit skeptical about what you said regarding Satan disguising himself as the Holy Spirit since Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth and Satan is the one who has no truth in him. A true believer would know immediately the difference.

Unknown tongues is not able to be spoken in the abscence of an interpreter. Anyone who speaks without an interpreter is faking. I have not ever spoken in tongues or interpreted.

No. some human beings could declare that the only data for being "crammed with the Holy Spirit" is glossolalia or the means to "pray in tongues", yet i do no longer think that and neither does my church. nonetheless, I do pray in tongues (from time to time) and so do lots (yet no longer all) of my Christian friends. As for what occurred at Pentecost, the place God gave the one hundred twenty the means to "communicate in tongues": it rather is diverse and not a lot of human beings could do this. For me i admire that i will pray in tongues, i've got confidence lots calmer doing that than praying in English, (no longer that English is undesirable regardless of the undeniable fact that it form of feels greater like God's in value whilst i'm in the different mode), and that's almost like my prayers are greater efficient. yet i replaced into Christian for 34 years previous to got here out of my mouth, and that i replaced into fairly chuffed previously. :-)

If you have a true relationship with God, you will know it is not of the devil. And how can you be cursing God with tongues, if you are opening your mouth in praise?
