Especially pasta? Once I learned, I found this the most rewarding way to eat...pasta especially.

Also, does anyone know of portable chopsticks (perhaps ones that screw together that one can carry in a purse)?

I have those chopsticks, you can buy them everywhere in Taiwan. Do you need a pair? Let me know, maybe I can send you some.
They are handy, but I have to say I rarely use them, in fact I don't think they ever come out of my bag. I always use the disposable ones, which are bad for you. The bleach they use is very unhealthy and proven to cause cancer. Public schools in Taiwan banned disposable chopsticks (I am a public school teacher) and every few months there is an article in the paper warning against their usage. But they do reccommend, if there is no other option, to dip your chopsticks into a glass of hot water first, as most of the bleach gets washed away.

I love to eat with chopsticks!! Even non-asian dishes. It's just fun.

As for portable chopsticks, I would think that a regular pair would fit in a purse.

100% agree with you, we Chinese only use 1 pair of chopsticks to enjoy a 13 courses wedding banquet, while compare a French 13 courses dinner how many forks and knives you would have to wash? Certainly I prefer to eat pasta (but not penne nor macarroni on a plate or bowl, I still prefer to use a spoon) with chopsticks at home, I'm a Chinese, it is convenient, I can safe a little bit of water! hahaha

But when in Italian Restaurants, I still would use knife / spoon and fork.

I have a few pairs of portable chopsticks (in different length and they pair with little plastic boxes) which I bought them in Tokyo and in some Japanese Department Stores in Hong Kong. You may find similar items on e-bay.

I also eat pasta with chopsticks... and from a bowl, not a plate.

I haven't seen those portable chopsticks in a long time, though...

Yes, I prefer to use chopsticks for all asian food, including noodles. It works better than a fork .

Hmm, I've never heard of portable chopsticks. Maybe you can carry a smaller pair of regular chopsticks.

Its good for dieters to eat with chopsticks..as the concentration that goes into picking up the food and trying to cut makes the food feel much more rewarding!
I enjoy eating with chopsticks, although it does take a while to eat peas hehe

Yeah I love eating spaghetti with chopsticks - it is so much easier and less messy. Never heard of such (with screws) portable chopsticks, though I have seen Japanese chopsticks where each pair comes with its own container for the user to bring it to work/school/picnic etc.

eating with chopsticks can get you to eat a bit more than you intend to, 'cause you're busy picking the food up that you don't really notice how much you've eaten...

portable chopsticks? all that i know of are the wooden, disposable ones...

If you like pasta with chopstix then use them for salads too. I cook with them all the time. You should try eating rice out of little rice bowls and leave your entrees in main plates or community plates. This makes dinner more social.
