First of all, if you have HPV already the vaccine will NOT cure you of it. Vaccines are given to PREVENT contracting the virus. If you already have the virus the vaccine will not cure it.

However, most women are able to get rid of their HPV all on their own. Their bodies can basically "fight it off". Some women will have it the rest of their life though. There is NO cure for HPV.

And, it is very possible that your boyfriend can contract the virus from you - whether you have had the vaccine or not.

If you boyfriend doesn't want to stay with you now, then it's his loss! There are plenty of fish in the sea! Find a guy who will love you for YOU, regardless of the virus you have.

***Also, I just wanted to give you the RIGHT information about HPV and the vaccine. It seems like everyone else who answered this question has been misinformed about it.

The vaccine CAN help you, even if you have HPV. Many doctors (including mine) suggest women WITH HPV to get the vaccine. It won't cure their HPV, but it can possibly prevent them from contracting a kind of HPV they don't already have. The vaccine protects against 4 different kinds of HPV (two known to cause about 70% of cervical cancer and two known to cause about 90% of genital warts). Say, for example, a young girl only has one kind of HPV that the vaccine prevents. Theoretically if she gets the vaccine, she'll be protected from contracting the other 3 kinds of HPV that the vaccine protects against.

And, men are not just "carriers" of HPV. HPV DIRECTLY affects men, just like it does women. My fiance contracted HPV from me about a year ago and he developed warts from it about a month later. So, obvisouly HPV directly affects men. They are NOT just carriers.

Ok, there are over 130 strains of HPV. The vaccine guards against the subtypes 6, 11, 16, and 18. You probably have another one of the types. The types 6, 11, 16, and 18 are the most common strains and account for over 50% of the cases of HPV out there.

For example, I have a strain of HPV. Its a high risk strain (but rare) of HPV, it causes cervical cancer, and its number 56. You can have more than one strain at once. So my OB/GYN gave me the shot, because it can guard me from catching the other strains.

And no, the vaccine doesn't cure HPV, and if you guys had alot of sex, he might have it. But if he is immature enough to break up with you over this, honey, you don't need him.

But you need to make sure to get to your OB/GYN EVERY YEAR, to make sure that your HPV is under control. You could have more than one strain, and you have to make sure that you don't get cervical cancer or have an outbreak of warts.

And go read this: http://nkustudentsforchoice.org/HPV.htm its a list of links I have compiled. Read the info. Educate yourself. Do it.

First of all I do not know why your doctor gave you the vaccine for HPV-the vaccine does not cure it-furthermore, men are not affected by this virus they are carriers and pass it to the women, so do not worry perhaps you can print out some information on the goverment's website for stds to give to him

The vaccine won't help once you've got it. He has the right to be afraid, it won't hurt him but he will pass it on to any girl he sleeps with if he does get it. The body usually rids itself of HPV after a year, maybe you will be OK.

I think it is the male that gives hpv to the female. You can not give it back to him....you just have it. If you have been with him for a long time, you might have got it from him.

If you have HPV you cannot get the vaccination. But males are carriers and women get the disease.
