When there is an HPV out break can it spread on the body? How is it saposed to be cleaned down there (in and out of the shower) on male and females without spreading? Are there pill medications that can prevent an outbreak? I have 2 tiny warts down there. this is my first outbreak, and I don't want it to spread. I've only had 2 sexual partners one I was married to for 8 years. The other I was dating for 6 months. I had sex with him once, and that's when I think I got HPV about 3 years ago, so it took almost 3 years to have my first outbreak. After I had sex with him I didn't feel comfortable seeing him again. I ignored his calls, so I'm not sure if he knows he has it. Thank you for taking your time to answer this question for me.

Genital warts can spread if you are constantly touching them and messing with them.

If you have genital warts the best thing to do is to leave them alone! Only touch them when you absolutely need to, like to put medication on them or to dry yourself off when you get out of the bath or shower.

And, you should always wash your hands after touching any warts to help prevent the spread of it.

Good luck!

I am so sorry about your outbreak.

We can acquire HPV with our first sex partner so there is really no way to know where we acquired our virus.

Has your doctor diagnosed these little bumps as being HPV. What treatment plan did her recommend? There is no oral treatment for HPV. Acid, freezing, laser, self administered treatments such as Aldara. All treatments can be irritating and no treatment can guarantee that your virus will not return.

CDC treatment recommendation:

http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2006/genital-warts.htm

There is no really special instruction to cleaning the area of the wart. If you are using a medication like colyondox or Aldara it is important not to irritate the skin more. Use a non-soap cleaning agent such or basis, soaps seems more irritating and cleaners with perfumes can cause more irritation. When irritation is severe...slip a day or so between treatments and just use plain water.

HPV can be spread. So it is not good to pick at the warts. The virus sheds virus particles and when we rub the area with the wart a little micro-tama can appear on the skin and this allows the virus and entry point. Your wart virus could be other places besides the two warts that have manifested. These other places could be just under the skin and irrupt later. Treatments such as Aldara will usually bring the warts out in the open...and you may assume the warts have spread but it is just the virus that laid just under the skin. A wart sort of grows outward. The virus enters the host tissue and it replicates an outward growth pattern of protein.

The wart itself is actually the "tip of an iceberg" in that the virus lurks in cells of the normal-appearing skin around the visible wart, and possibly also in other uro-genital areas.

This link may help you understand more how the infection is spread. It also talks more of Aldara a treatment that your doctor may recommend.

If you have not talked with this guy in 3 years...I don't feel it would be a good idea to call him up and tell him he is the cause of your wart infection or that he transmitted his infection to you. He does carry the virus and he is infection other women. He may have had warts in the past or his warts may not have been visible to the nake eye. Telling him he is the culprit of your infection just opens the doctor for lots of accusation where answers can’t be found. You should however tell your future partners of your past infection.

This slide show may help you understand how we are infected with the virus it also talks about the treatment Aldara.

Depending on how big the warts are you can have them removed and they have creams for such things. I would think they can spread because HPV screws with your DNA. I am very sorry this happend to you but dont feel so bad a lot of women have it now I mean a lot. Im thinking the outbreaks cause your immune system to come down some so you might want to eat some yogurt and drink lots of orange juice you need all the pro-bodies you can get and the vitamin c helps your immune system . Good Luck and Bad stuff happens to good people

Yes, you can definately spread the disease. I would see your doc to get on Aldera, and read up on HPV. "Cleaning" down there won't help, and it's even spreadable through condoms. HPV with warts is called Low Risk HPV, and you might have High Risk HPV, so make sure to get to your OB/GYN and stay up on your pap smears. Here is a list of links for you to read up on: http://nkustudentsforchoice.org/HPV.htm Remember, read read read and educate yourself!

dont poke at them. it spreads my itself, but if you poke at them and pop them (which is possible fore some to pop) then it can spread even worse. just wash gently down there and try not to mess with them.
