My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. well for the pain you can take tylenol or ask for some vicodin if its extremely painful. make sure you keep the area clean and try not to wear underwear...loose pajama bottoms or boxers when sleeping..valtrex/famvir/acyclovir are all the same thing..i prescribe alot of this maybe you should go see youre doctor and see about going on a daily treatment of valtrex...alot of times people have these outbreaks when they are stressed..try to relax, and get alot of exercise to and that will help reduce the outbreaks aswell as medications...i hope you feel better

Recommended Regimens*

Acyclovir 400 mg orally three times a day for 7–10 days
OR
Acyclovir 200 mg orally five times a day for 7–10 days
OR
Famciclovir 250 mg orally three times a day for 7–10 days
OR
Valacyclovir 1 g orally twice a day for 7–10 days

* Treatment might be extended if healing is incomplete after 10 days of therapy.
