I am about to enter a relationship with a girl whom I don’t know very well. She said that she has no STDs In this relationship, I am not planning to have sex with her and I’m not planning to kiss her in the mouth because I know that herpes travels in the saliva. Instead, I want to kiss her in places like the neck, ears, stomach, etc.. where the skin is dry so that (as far as I know) it will be impossible for me to catch and STD. I am VERY careful about NOT getting any STDs. So before I enter this relationship, can you please tell me if it is possible to get an STD by kissing or licking her skin(if she is infected w/ an STD). And is it true that herpes travels only in saliva, or does it also travel in sweat. Plase help.
Thanks

This is a serious question. Therefore, if you have a silly comment about my question, pleae don't bother writing it. SINCE I HAVE NOT INSULTED YOU DIRECTLY, PLEASE DON'T INSULT ME BY WRITING "STUPID QUESTION" OR "ASSHOLE." I do believ that I have a logical question!

The links below will probably answer your question. According to the second link ...
You can get herpes through unprotected sexual intercourse which includes vaginal, anal and oral sex. And, unlike HIV which cannot be transmitted through saliva or by touching an infected person, you can get herpes by kissing and even touching someone who has it. It was once considered that only sores which were open were infectious; however, it has been shown that you can get herpes even if the person does not any visible sores, though it is less likely. You can also spread the virus to other parts of your body by self-infection. For example, if you have genital herpes, touching your genitalia and then touching your mouth can result in the development of oral herpes. This can also occur vice versa. Areas that are most vulnerable to a herpes infection are any areas which are moist. These include the mouth, the vagina, the vulva, the penis, the anus and the eyes. Skin can also be infected if there is an open cut, burn, dryness or rash. Pregnant women can pass the virus onto their newborn during childbirth. The risk of transmitting herpes to your child if you have no visible sores is extremely low. It is more likely to occur when sores develop or during the period just before they develop. In this case, it is recommended to discuss the option of a cesarean section with your doctor.

I am just confused. I am not trying to insult you. First why would you be in a relationship if you didn't trust the person? If she says she does not have any STDs, then why don't you trust that? If you can't trust her, then don't be in a relationship with her. Second, don't you think she will find it odd when you kiss her everywhere but her mouth and when you won't have sex with her. Third, no you cannot get STDs from kissing those places...most STDs are passed from vaginal secretions and semen, saliva or a combination of both. And lastly why are you so paranoid? It is one thing to be educated and aware and use protection in reagrds to STDs, but what you are doing seems like paranoya. How do you plan on having a life-long relationship?

I am not going to say this is a dumb question like the person above stated. Because there is no such thing as a stupid question. At any rate, since saliva is bodily fluid, you can get some STD's such as gonorrhea, and possibly HPV (warts) through the mouth; again, IF the person is infected with these particular diseases.
Hope I answered your question. If not, google or search Wikipedia, or even WebMD
** I should suggest that maybe you two.. when the time is appropriate for the both of you to get intimate.. before, go together and get tested.. it will better to be safe than sorry **

You will not catch any STD's by kissing her on her neck etc... unless you see a sore and kiss that you will be fine 100%.

Everyone one the playground knows that you will get COOTIES if you touch a girl!
In all seriousness, the girl is going to be offended if you refuse to kiss her. You are not going to have a successful relationship if you pursue it in this manner.

why bother if you are so paranoid?
you could always offer to take her to an ob/gyn and get her tested for everything you are fearful of.
get to know the person, before you worry yourself "sick" over sex issues.
