Doctors are a conservative lot. It's normal to start low on a medicine and work the dose up slowly, and the normal reduction from a medicine is about 4mm Hg. The same goes for adding further medications. It's a good system, especially considering the multiple systems involved in maintaining blood pressure compared to the single mechanism modified by your blood pressure medication.
