Cities are an important part of the American economy. Considering this, I don't believe that I'm wrong in saying that immigrants are helping to maintain the cities in a stable condition, since many native-born Americans are leaving.

I noticed that almost everyone in here is going against Los Angeles. The reason is clear, but I think that the people in here are not balancing the good and the bad effects in a proper way. They only look at the bad things because that's what's more convenient and suitable for them....but what's more convenient and suitable is not always the best.

Also, I want to say that immigrants not only go to the big cities because of jobs, but also because many of them have family already established there. I myself came to live in Chicago because most of my family had been living here for quite a time. And those who are saying immigrants are "bringing down to ruins" American cities are absolutely wrong. They only want to find someone to blame for all the city problems, and with the immigration topic being a hot issue at this time, which better group can they find? Maybe one day they will open their eyes and understand that instead of finding "someone" to blame all the problems on, it's better to try to find a solution!

Talking about Americans leaving the city, I wonder, where are all the people who say immigrants should stay in their country and try to "fix it" instead of "running away" to the United States?? Why are Americans leaving their cities instead of "trying to fix them"? See? It's much easier to criticize others when you are not in their situation. I just hope that people think it twice before saying immigrants should stay in their countries to fix "their problems", when they, in a similar situation, would do the same.

I hope that I didn't offend anyone, am just expressing my thoughts and my opinion on this subject. After all, isn't that what Yahoo! Answers is for? Good question by the way.

i'm in Miami, Fl the place that's been averaging the low eighty's, mid 70's this "iciness". i replaced into born and raised here so i like it merely wonderful. I even have numerous friends and relatives here. Cons- it is not common to make genuine connections with human beings. to possess a house is almost impossible. that's costly. Hurricanes another year. Rush hour site visitors. Mosquito's interior the summertime. execs- we've not got state tax. close to to seashores and the keys. It in no way snows. Lot's of custom! artwork scene is super. continuously green. super parks. super human beings observing. something for all and sundry. Flights to the islands and maximum significant cities around the globe bypass away out of here. holidays spot for out of city friends and relatives. Lies uncovered: unlike Miami Vice, undesirable Boys, MTV, law enforcement officers or CSI Miami. South sea coast is over rated. Natives are no longer all into Glam or the club scene...it rather is for vacationers and spring breakers.

gameover - Your article says 'gee its lucky there are so many immigrants because Americans are moving from these big cities and immigrants (not necessarily illegal ones) are 'filling the gap'.

However:
This assumes they would have moved out if the overcrowding of schools by illegal immigration hadn't ruined schools in at least LA, so that the middle class (which can't afford private school PLUS college tuition PLUS retirement) is moving to distant suburbs ...like Arizona.

I've thought of moving myself, and my GRANDPARENTS grew up here. I am not thinking of it because I no longer want to live in the city but because due to the mass illegal immigration the middle class can no longer make it here in the cities with jobs in my area. You can find other stories that will explain the huge gap growing between rich and poor in Los Angeles and the 'flight of the middle class'.

Illegal immigration is one big REASON Los Angeles is losing people who belong in this country. It isn't 'solving the problem' but creating it.

Look at other statistics. College degrees are fleeing, unskilled labor is coming in. Los Angeles is becoming a welfare city.

"I'd like to know where thay got their numbers. This whole study sounds like a load of minure. I would bet Wal Mart and Tyson had something to with this study."
"It's open borders propaganda, don't fall for it. These sorts of "studies" are appearing everywhere that there is resistance to illegals taking over our societies. In California, they seem to have one of these "studies" released every single week. One "study" "proved" that illegals don't use healthcare -- when they had 80 hospitals closed because of them abusing the "free" medical care that emergency rooms are forced to offer them. Another "study" "proved" that illegals have a lower crime rate than legals -- when the FBI just released figures last week showing that the border states are the most dangerous, crime-ridden states in the Union. Yet another "study" "proved" that illegals don't push down wages. These "studies" are all produced by organizations funded by the open borders who want to destroy our nation.
"Being illegal is still a crime. I don't know how people from DC can decide what is good for America. Let them come here and have to listen to Spanish on the automated phone messages, let them see the banners and boards outside banks and businesses just in Spanish, or to look up at the overhead monitors in Wal-Mart and see and hear the commercials in Spanish. It is absolutely ridiculous to say that only Hispanics will do certain jobs over here - who the heck did them before they came over here? Does anybody feel "enriched" by the illegals?
"Here's an excerpt from a different study released yesterday "Immigration reforms that increase the number of low-skilled workers entering the United States threaten to impose a high cost on taxpayers, says a study being released today. The Heritage Foundation report calculates that for every $1 unskilled workers pay in taxes they receive about $3 in government benefits, including Medicaid, food stamps, public housing and other welfare programs" The report on low-skilled workers, who are defined as those without a high school diploma, did not focus on immigrants, but its authors say 25 percent of legal immigrants and 50 percent of illegal aliens fall into the category. About 9 percent of native-born Americans lack a high school diploma. Using data from 2004, the report shows the average household headed by a low-skilled worker paid $9,689 in taxes but received $32,138 in benefits a year. The more than $22,000 difference is the "tax burden" which rises to $1.1 million over the worker's lifetime - driving the economy? Yes, that's true - Mexico's economy. Not ours.

You have a point but are missing something. Please read this all and I wish I knew what you have to say than.

You hear it almost daily. "Economical growth" has to increase if we are not to..." or "We have to have steady "growth" or we have nothing to distribute". Except for the obvious reply "Why don´t we distribute, more fairly, the wealth we already have?" (and the fact that the wealth added by economical growth is generally distributed with something like 10% to the poor, 20% to the middle classes and 70% to the already wealthy), there´s a fundamental flaw in the growth philosophy: Everlasting "economical growth" is dependent on everlasting supply.. And the raw materials are limited!

According to all science the earth has a certain mass and dimensions which don´t seem to increase as to follow the growth-idiots´ plans. But of course the people who talk about eternal growth know very well that it can´t go on. That´s why they are so desperate to lay their hands on as much of the natural resources they can before they run out completely, some in the next ten to forty years. Do they expect their offspring to live in caves or slums? Maybe in the future they have plans to ship iron ore from the moon or copper from Venus, I don´t know

Let´s be absolutely clear about this! The planet earth consists of only so much iron, copper, uranium, oil, gold, cobalt and other materials, and not one bloody milligram more. Any" growth" that is based on taking out these limited resources from the ground is doomed to come to an end. While talking about limits we should perhaps remember that all talk about oil and a lot of other things as being produced is lies! We don´t produce any oil, we take out what is there. We don´t produce copper, we refine ore already there. And what is there, surprise surprise .

There´s no reason to get depressed though. We only have to learn some new skills. Recycling of what we have is one thing. Using renewable energy is another. Unfortunately we don´t get much help from our elected (or unelected) politicians. All over the world they seem dead set on going on, much like suicide detachments, without missing a step in their unending "quest for growth". This growth you talk about so proudly.

To believe in endless "growth "on a limited planet one has to be either an idiot, national economist or brain-dead politician!

So did we benefit--yes and no, but that no is a biggie.

What you say is true---is this a good thing-think about it--and don't let YOUR wants interfere with this truth. Good question though worth discussing--got my attention.

add on
So in conclusion-
I suppose those who feel growth is wonderful-and endless thank you-I see the point your making making-you saying some did help build and you are correct.
But I don't thank anyone -(anyone-no matter who they are or where they are from) for it- it didn't help like many think.
Ghost towns-no ,. where there is a will they is a way. America has built many cities with out all this additional help for years. This addition l growth has created more slums too (see figures above where money went). One look on web can show how this "growth'"some people speak of has affected us recently. We are more in debt than ever. We as a Nation can not support ourselves on our own . We are now depended on other Nations. This is what this growth have created. Petty it is-beneficial to who is another question

Thats assuming that uncontrolled growth is good. China sees for economic growth, its country must shrink its population. The larger the population the more the resources needs to be divided among the population. More people means less oil per person. Labor market is increasingly outsourced. That means if the population grows people internally would have to fight for diminishing jobs.

Actually, cities like Los Angeles are gentrifying their down town areas. I'm pretty sure 99% of immigrants still can't afford $500,000 condo lofts in the downtown area where I live. So, yes immigration is creating a population bust in our cities but the gentrification of our down town area is keeping the natives and "non-minorities".
