Dog biscuts and cheese spread, I had this at a party once and it was sooo good. But if you're not into that why not try hummus and veggies with pita wedges.
Hummus:
1 med sized can of chick peas drained.
1 or 2 cloves of garlic
cumin
salt/pepper
lemon juice
olive oil
water
tahini
Use a food processor if you have one, otherwise you can use a blender.
Food processor:
Puree chick peas, garlic, juice of 1 lemon, oil, 1/4 cup water and spices until creamy. add more liquid if it gets too thick.
add tahini until you reach desired consistancy. (should be pretty thick)
In a blender do the same thing but it takes longer. Also add the tahini while stirring with a spoon.
I always make this without a recipe so you are on your own for amounts. I usually end up adding this or that at the end.

Celery stalks filled with blue cheese, simple, easy, and delicious.
Baked brie...get a small wheel of brie, take off the paper, but not the coating on the cheese. Wrap the whole wheel in crescent roll dough (like you find in cans in the dairy section at the supermarket). Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350. Let it sit 5 minutes before you cut little wedges out of it. Serve warm. If you want to go the extra mile, you can brush beaten egg over the dough just before you bake it. This looks fabulous, but is so easy and so yummy.

Go to your local grocery store, there are a lot of products out there that make it very simple to entertain these days. A good idea that is better than chips is veggies and dip, also crackers and a dip is great too. there are different cheese dips avaliable for you to choose from. Dont forget that you can always make your own dip from cream cheese and any spice that you like and may have on hand. Try something spicy possibly.
hope that helps

IM ALWAYS HAVING PARTIES SO HERES MY MOST POPULAR PARTY FAVORITES:
CIELITO LINDO
Put softened cream cheese in the bottom of a shallow pan, top it with salsa (chips salsa, mild), then chop lettuce (SMALL pieces), SMALL diced tomatoes and top with mexican cheese or any cheddar grated cheese. Heat up in the microwave till cheese melts and voila! Serve with tortilla chips
SURPRISE
Take a can of Spam and break it up till there are no lumps with a fork or use a food processor to puree. Put it in bottom of pie pan or any shallow pan, top it with softened crean cheese. Top that with any fruit jelly or jam (i mostly use grape or pineapple) put it in the refrigerator to set and serve with ritz crackers.
WIZ SANDWICHES
Put in a food processor or blender a jar of cheese whiz, diced spam and spanish pimento (they come in a can or jar). You can skip the pimientos if you dont find it. Puree and if the consistency is too hard add a little bit of milk. Refrigerate till it sets and spread on club sandwich bread. Cut into 4 pieces and serve. People really love these.
PIGGIES IN A BLANKET
Buy hillshire farm links or tiny sausages and wrap in bacon. (i use turkey bacon) hold the bacon with a toothpick and bake till bacon is cooked thoroughly.
I HAVE MANY MORE BUT HOPE THESE HELP.
GOOD LUCK

Spiced Pecans
INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 cups pecan halves
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
PREPARATION:
Put pecans and oil in a flat baking pan; stir until pecans are coated. Roast in 300° oven 20 to 25 minutes, stirring frequently. Cool.
Combine sugar, cinnamon, salt, and water in a saucepan; cook, stirring, over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
Boil to 236° of a candy thermometer, or to soft ball stage.* Remove from heat; blend in vanilla. Add pecans and stir until mixture is creamy. Turn out onto waxed paper and use a fork to separate pecans.
*To Test for Soft Ball Stage
A small amount of syrup dropped into chilled water forms a ball, but is soft enough to flatten when picked up with fingers (234° to 240°).
