What is the best way to word a dinner party invitation? I want it intimate with only three other couples, but I'm completely unsure of how to word it.

I would hand write the invitation on nice stationary and tell them exactly what you told us. I am assuming that you would like this to be formal. Spouse's name and I are having a small dinner party on Date. Please join us for coctails and appetizers at Time. Dinner will follow. We really hope you can join us. If you just add your phone number at the end the recipeint will assume an RSVP is necessary. Regards,
Your name

Since this is such a small gathering of folks, I'm wondering why you don't just pick up the phone and give them a call saying: "I'm having a few folks over for dinner and would love to have you come!"

But, since you're gathering also sounds like a more "formal" affair, complete with written invites, how about finding some really beautiful note cards and stating something like:

" Please come to dinner on ____________! We'll be sharing food with several other couples and I would love to have you join us."

and then ask for an RSVP

It depends if there is a theme or not. For a generic dinner party invitation though I would suggest with something along these lines:

You are invited to come and enjoy dinner with

At

On

I/We look forward to seeing you.

Please RSVP

Do you have a theme? For example - I was recently invited to a game night. The hostess used playing cards from a game that she was throwing out due to missing pieces as part of the invitation. As for the wording, I go for simple...
