I am talking about the Vegetarian Meat made of soyabean and ready to cook (fry or steam).
Is it good for health? Does it have lot of saturated carbohydrates? And most important, as sometimes it tastes so simliar to the real meat, is it purely vegetarian or the makers have a secret ingredient which actually brings out the original flavour of meat in the product?

Most chinese who follow buddhism must be very familiar with what I am talking about.

Need some englightenment on this one..Thanks to all in advance, who contribute their answers!

soybean is the most healthy product of nature you can fins - you can find a lot of carb there. The secret of the smell is the combination of seasoning. Chinese have more spices and seasoning method than you ever think of. So don't be surprise when you come to any Chinese restaurant and taste their food.

Some of the products have cheese in them. They are low in saturated FAT-high in complex carbohydrates( the good carbs) and high in protein. You must read the ingredient list to see if you object to any of the ingredients-different brands have different stuff. If it is labeled "vegan" it can have absolutely no meat or dairy ingredients.

Remember, just because it's vegetarian or vegan doesn't mean it's good for you. A lot of that fake meat stuff is full of sugars and sulfites and hidden dairy and eggs (in case you're trying to avoid those).
Read the label, you'll be shocked at some of that stuff.

There are good products out there though. I like sunshine burgers, they're made with sunflower seeds. Mostly, I use plain tofu or I make my own burger type things with lentils and brown rice and stuff like that.

They're good for you (as a rule). If you're in the US check the ingredient panels as others suggest. That unnamed company based in Arkansas carries their own brand that DOES contain animal ingredients (other than egg/dairy).

The major US brands are all vegetarian (dairy/egg) and many of their products are vegan. To name a few:
Boca
Morningstar Farms/Worthington/Loma Linda
Gardenburger
Quorn
Nate's
Yves
Lightlife

i eat the good fake meat all the time, they are called bean curds, baked tofu, tempur,.

the fake beacon, burgers, chicken, turkey, i've never tried, and i've been vegetarian for 5 years, i don't think those fake food are good, too much isolated protein

They're usually low-fat, high-fiber, and very healthy. Sometimes too much sodium.

They taste very good, and the flavor of meat is usually from soy, garlic, and onion.
