I'm thinking about becoming a vegetarian. So that means no meat. What are some alternatives that are just as enjoyable? No salad or stuff like that, I'm not doing it for health reasons.(I'm doing it because of mistreatment of animals and all that stuff)

I'm thinking about cutting out fish too, that's an animal. And they do the same stuff they do to fish as they do to other animals

Fake meat, seitan, tempeh, quorn, morningstar, ground round (alternative for ground beef), tofurky, etc. Are all meat alternatives, they have substitutes, for steak, meatballs, chicken, burgers, even turkey and deli slices. But mainly eat lots of legumes, lots of beans and nuts. Like bean chili, etc. incorporate veggies into the dish.

I have been a vegetarian for 2 and a half years and doing it the same reason because of the animals! Eat salads and fish, fish is not meat so don't let people fool you, eat peanuts they have good protein in them and you need protein. don't eat stuff like marshmallows or gummy bears or skittles or anything that is gummy it has gelatin which is made from chicken fat, don't eat jello or yogurt it also has gelatin in it. There are foods called veggie burger and veggie sausage mostly anything veggie and then meat, those foods are made from soy so you can eat those they are good!

Good Luck!

Make veggie soup:
Take a container of V8 either regular or hot and spicy.. add a grain like rice or barley, along with onions, garlic, carrots, potatoes, squash(zucchini or crooked neck yellow), a can of diced tomatoes, some cut up green pepper or maybe yellow for color ...add any other veg you like and get the mixture to boil then simmer until the carrots and potatoes are tender.
Take those Glad containers that look like tv dinner trays.. they are white and come in packs of 6.. put the soup in each tray and then freeze the 6 whatever is left over you can eat tonight.
Add some crackers.. cheez its.. or goldfish for some carbs.
My guy is living on this for a diet and he is enjoying his dinners a lot!

I really loved making burgers with a Portabello mushroom cap in place of the meat. Beyond that, many pastas and casseroles can be made meatless, and chinese and mexican cuisine have many options as well. I'd just look around through cookbooks and look at what there is to see. Not eating meat did wonders for my cooking skill. It'll be hard at first, but after awhile you'll be eating better than many of those around you, though you'll still likely be marginalized when you go out to eat.

For new vegetarians, go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's (or any healthfood store) and look at the frozen foods. Try stuff by Boca, Quorn, and Morningstar Farms -- they all make excellent meat substitutes.

There are many "loaf" recipes in some of vegeterian cookbooks. This way you can have the full satisfaction from having a cook meal. Sorry I don't have any recipes, but the New York Times Natural Foods Cookbook is very good.

Bush's Baked Beans - vegetarian variety is really good.

I like Carol Shelby's Chili Mix and I make it w/o meat.

Chipotle has really good vegetarian options.

Trader Joe's has an excellent Tomato & Roasted Bell Pepper soup. (It comes in a carton.)

Fish is meat so if you want to be vegetarian, you can't eat fish. Check this recipe site out..it's great for a beginner.

You are smart to realize that fish are animals too and that they tend to be treated terribly. Please consider cutting them out of your diet with all the other stuff. :)

Compassion Over Killing has some AWESOME recipes which I've tried myself. (See sources.) The black bean burgers and quesadillas in particular were amazing.
