First of all guys do not need medications for infections such as this. The worst thing that can happen to him is if he feels itching or burning in his genital area he may need to apply some anti fungal cream to wipe out any irritating bacteria from your infection (that is if you guys had unprotected sex). It can be found in any pharmacy of grocery store next to the yeast infection treatments. There are a couple of types but look for something like miconazole nitrate cream if you can't find that make sure it mentions that it is a vaginal anti fungal cream. Tell him to apply it liberally for a couple of days until the itching goes away. He CANNOT get any STDs as the cause of BV. Whoever tells you this is full of rubbish. However I would strongly suggest getting tested for STDs as well as your partner if you haven't already. Hope that helps!

BV is not an STD. Your body has a natural balance of normal bacteria and yeast in your vagina. When there is an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast that is when you will have either BV or a Yeast infection. It is possible to transfer the infection back and forth between the two of you if you continue to have sex w/o protection before you finish your meds.

No. Bacterial vaginosis is an overgrowth of bacteria that are normally in the vagina. While it's more common in women who are sexually active, it also occurs in women who are not sexually active. It's not usually necessary for your sex partner to be treated
