Here are a few facts for you about sinus. Please note, I included all sinus locations but most facts will deal with the sinuses located in our face:
1. A sinus is a cavity in a bone or tissue.
2. Sinuses exist in the brain, heart, anus and facial bones/cranium (ones with which you are most familiar).
3. Sinusitis, infection of a sinus, is a very common illness.
4. There are 4 pair of sinuses located adjacent to the nose.
5. Frontal sinuses are located in the forehead.
6. Maxillary sinuses are located in the cheeks.
7. Ethmoid sinuses are between the eyes.
8. Sphenoid sinuses are deep in the center of the skull.
9. Their purpose is unknown.
10. Facial sinuses produce mucus to keep your nose moist and protect it from dust, organisms and pollutants.
11. Morgagni's crypt is another term for the anal sinus.
12. Sinuses near the nose are also referred to as paranasal sinuses.
