If you strictly look at numbers meat appears to have more protein then vegetables.. but there is more to it than that .. it is how does your body use it and how much protein does your body actually absorb from meat as opposed to vegetables.. Your body absorbs more protein from vegetables then from meat ..example you eat meat with 10 grams of protein you absorb 5 .... you eat vegetables with 10 grams of protein you absorb 9 ... so it is not just how much it is how much is usable ..your body has a much easier time breaking down vegetable protein then meat protein ..protein is also made way too important ...there is a great article on protein ..please check out this site ..it does not refer to what I am saying but does give you a lot of protein information you will find useful ..http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:d9DZiMAlpaYJ:www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm+highest+protein+vegetables&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us ..

All vegetables contain protein, but meat contains, pound for pound, *many* times more than most vegetables, and more than all vegetables.
Also, much of the protein in plants is in a form called cellulose (the green pigment which allows plants to photosynthesise) which humans cannot digest at all, as we lack the cellulase enzyme needed for it's digestion.
What's more, contrary to some of the earlier points, your body can absorb protein better from meat than vegetables. In times gone by meat was really the main source of protein for most people. You con go and get nuts, etc, now, but most people then couldn't. The only really way to get large quantities of protein then was meat, and thus our bodies have become adapted to getting most of our protein from there.
Of course, this isn't that important to most people - as I said protein can be got from all plants - but to some with increased protein needs to the average, it is important to eat meat.

Although meat does contain much more protein than vegetables, vegetables are a better choice since they contain many vitamins in addition to some protein and are generally fat free.

Vegetables are high in amino acids (the building blocks of protein) in other words incomplete proteins, If you eat a variety of vegetables and other plant food then your body can make complete protein. Take look at other huge powerfull mammals for an example, look at the power of this horse http://www.dreammooreranch.com/talisman2.jpg Horse mainly eat grass and other plants. Vegetables don't have as much protein as meat but who needs that much protein anyway? Most people are getting 2 to 5 times more protein than what is healthy for them. Vegans can be body builders http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/images/kennethwilliams.jpg&imgrefurl=http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/natural.html&h=187&w=310&sz=14&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=_OJ6GoSJfkJ_MM:&tbnh=71&tbnw=117&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvegan%2Bbodybuilder%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4DACA_enCA212CA212 without any supliments or steroids. People rave about protein, but the truth is protein is no more importand than any other nutriant and can be easily got with a vegan diet and an omnivorous diet.

The only vegetables that have protein are legumes such as lentils, split peas, and dry beans. Even these aren't considered a complete protein unless they are eaten with a grain such a s rice. Meat and eggs and dairy products have more protein. Soy beans are a good source of protein also which is why tofu is good for those who would like to restrict animal products.
