I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyrioditis (Autoimmune Thyroid disease) about 5 years ago The Doctor gave me Synthetic thyroid hormones... Synthroid and Levoxyl about 6 months later I would develope chest pain with in an hour of taking my meds. Over the years it got worse. To the point I went to the ER for treatment they said, my meds were working too well and that my symptoms were Tachycardia. They took me off all meds, but I am now feelings the effects from my thyroid and even after stopping I still have heart episodes. I never have had heart problems until I started taking meds. Is there anyway I can treat one condition without affecting the other?

I went to the ER for treatment for the pain from the tachycardia. I don't rely on them for my treatment of my illness. My regular Doctor took me off of my meds after the ER doctor discovered the Tachycardia. I thought I was having a heart attack.

You see your doctor is a very competent , he knew that Synthroid was accumulating in your blood resulting in false (Pseudo hyperthyroidism) symptoms, he had to do an ABRUPT WITH DRAWL. Kindly tell him to have the level of Synthroid in your blood/serum if facility is available.

Recheck with your doctor, these ER don't take proper history or satisfy the patients.

Hi Destiny

First of all let me tell you that Tachycardia is not a medical condition. Its just a medical jargon for fast heart beat.

From your story I understand you were on a high dose of thyroid hormone and was the reason behind these symptoms.
I still dont understand that why your doctor stopped all the medications. If you were on high dose, the obvious step would be to decrease the dose and see if the symptoms disappear.
The other fact giving me dilemma is that you had chest-pain. Chest pain is usually doesn't happen as a DIRECT side effect of high thyroid hormone. High dose of thyroid hormone may cause stress on our heart and that may cause chest pain. But if the chest pain is due to some side-effect on heart, its not something you should ignore.
In fact any chest pain MUSTN'T be taken lightly and should be investigated fully.

Remember...thyroid hormone is one of the most important hormones of our body which has widespread effects on quite a few other body organs so under-acting thyroid is not something that you should have, for a long time.

In my opinion you should ask your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist. They will be the best person to guide you about the right dose and side effects of the medications.

In the end, as a medical professional I wouldn't advice you to rely completely on an alternative therapy (e.g. enzyme therapy), if you dont have sufficient scientific evidence that it works. I tried to find some concrete evidence for the alternative enzyme therapy (searched medical journal as well) but couldn't find anything. Though I found this article on the American Cancer Society's website:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_5_3x_Enzyme_Therapy.asp

hope it was useful.

You may have been given too much thyroid hormone in the form of Synthroid or Levoxyl and thus got side effects from it. You need to have your dose adjusted so that your TSH level in the blood is normal.

Thyroid conditions should be treated by an endocrinologist that is familiar with ALL of your history, not by a poor ER doc that is in the ER to treat emergencies not chronic illnesses. You need to see your doctor, have blood levels drawn and work to get that TSH level regulated with whatever medication and whatever dose works for you and you won't do that in an ER.

yes..your condition needs immediate attention please email me at vince3v@yahoo.com i have an inexpensive therapy that already helped plenty of patients....this is an all natural enzyme therapy...we will supplement your immune system with enzymes that is lacking so it would be self sustaining...it would balance all the chemical production in your body so it would again function on its normal state...im afraid that up to know there is no western medical cure to your disease...but this enzyme therapy already cured such a disease...
