No, that's not true.
HSV1 (herpes simplex virus 1) is typically cold sores, but it can also cause genital herpes.
Herpes can be passed to a baby during birth but this is EXTREMELY rare. If the mother has genital herpes (usually HSV2) and she currently has an outbreak when she is going into labor, the doctor will most likely suggest a C-section delivery. The baby can contract herpes as it is coming through the birth canal. It can rub against the sores on the mother and contract the virus. I've read chances of a baby being born with herpes is less than 1%.
If the mother is not having an outbreak then vaginal birth is perfectly fine!

There is a possibility that infection will be passed along and in some cases (but not the majority) can cause serious health problems for the baby. You should discuss this with a Physician.
If you do decide to have a baby, make a decision beforehand to spend a lot of time at Doctor visits and $$$ for various treatments to get through the pregnancy. If a Doctor finds a problem early enough, he can usually fix it or take other protective measures.
I read what others said about HSV and most what they say is true. But HSV can have different manifestations than sores, the same virus can cause different diseases, some quite serious. Even grown-ups who get sores can one day get something much more serious.
Viruses go through cycles and this particular virus used to have a high fatality rate 100 years ago, whereas now in comparison the same virus is fairly benign.

I got diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about six years back, while I was still in college and had a mindless one-night stand. I understand lots of girls will declare this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/uEUlH everything got better.
Not only was I able to remove all remnants of the hsv from my system in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded cafe, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience true love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

Go right ahead and have a baby. HSV-1 usually causes cold sores. Not to worry.
Even if you did have genital herpes it wouldn't be a problem unless you had an active case at the time of delivery, in which case you would likely get a C-section.

you can have a baby. Your baby's just at risk of the HSV which can cause lots of deficits in the baby. this can result in preterm labor and low birth weight. You must work with your doctor during the course of your pregnancy for your baby's health. if you have a type 2 infection you can have a c-section to prevent HSV transmission to your baby via vaginal delivery :P

false...i do not know where you've heard that from! even babies are born with mothers who have HSV-2 and most are okay! c-sections lesson the chance of hsv-2 transfer which can cause mental retardation amongst other things, but i know three children who's mothers have hsv-2 and two are normal, the other has aspergers.

do you realize that 1 in 4 people in USA alone has the virus... Just that not everyone realizes it or has outward symptoms..
More than likely if you test positive for having chicken pox, you also got hsv1...
Dont knock yourself out about it... Everyone gets cold sores every now and then..
Just inform your doctor or ask about it.. usually you are fine to have a baby, they just put some sort of ointment in the babies eyes at birth to prevent infection of the eyes.. They are caucious and know what to do in these situations..
Have your baby!.. goodluck!

Yes, you can give birth to a baby. However, if you have an outbreak or are shedding the virus...you will have to have a C-section. But plenty of people w/ hsv1 have happy, healthy babies.
