I was in so much pain with my first outbreak my doctor prescribed me Vicodin.

You can always take some Ibuprofen for the pain. If I were you I would take 600mg - 800mg (800mg is prescription strength). And if you have a fever you can take some acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Also, wear loose fitting clothes if you can. I wore PJ pants when I had my outbreak. Cotton underwear also helps. You don't want anything too tight or restricting down there.

And, you can use an ice pack to kind of numb the pain.

My doctor also told me to use a blow dryer to dry off my genital area when I get out of the shower. It's sounds a little weird, but it really works. You don't want to rub your genital area dry because this can irritate the sores even more and cause them to spread more.

I hope this helps you out! Good luck!

***Also, PLEASE do NOT put Neosporin on any of the sores. Neosporin is NOT for herpes! It can make the sores burn even more and irritate them even more!

Get an ice pack for the area, it helps numb the pain. Also, you might experience a lot of back and muscle pain. You might need something like vicadin, etc. Talking work baths in epson salt also help.

Go to a health store and get a "perinatal-soothing (no joke) spray" for women after they have a baby, it helps with sores...a MD gave this to me, very helpful. Maybe 8 dollars...They will sell it at a place like Whole Foods or an Organic Market/. Doesn't matter if you are a guy.

Also, an organic supplement "Lysine" Helps effect the virus production.

If you have frquent outbreaks, you will have to consider going on a once a day med to reduce outbreaks.

i was tested and sadly, they said i have a mild case of herpes. the only time i ever got an outbreak that really hurt was the very first one, which is why i went to see the doc. now i get maybe 1 or 2 every six months. its nothing really!! but as far as the pain goes, there was really nothing i could do. maybe try some hemorroid cream or something, it may numb the area for a little while, but i would read the bottle before hand cause im not sure about that one, it was just an idea at the top of my head.

Try to use hemmorriod wipes to numb the pain. It it's safe for your bum, it's got to be okay for genitals. Then consider campho phenique on the sores, or any other medicine for cold sores (cold sores are herpes). They make over the counter lotions too. I'd only use those things AFTER numbing... otherwise they might sting!

Yes, keep it dry. You can use medicated talc powder. Loose clothing too.

Keep the area DRY, try not to scratch...If you are a female you might have a yeast infection as a secondary thing...check with your doctor again...

seriosly, put Neosporin on the sore...and if needed, put a bandaid on it! If you are female, wear a pad even if your not on your period, it helps relieve the pain. If your a male, I swear I heard putting a sock on the "member" while you have an open sore, helps relieve the pain on the sore.
