3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Only a Physician can make the choice regarding medication. And yes, most blood pressure medication has some side affects initially. Most people do adjust to this. You can talk to your Doctor about meds that don't cause sexual problems.

I dont know a holistic alternative. You might go to a health food or vitamin store and ask them. You can check Dr. Andrew Weil's website. He is the famous proponent of natural remedies at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I take Lisinopril also in 10 mcg. and my BP is steady. It may be caused by some other medication you are taking. Get another doctor's prognosis. Look up the different BP meds and see their side effects before you visit this doc again.

Depending on if you have additional co-existing illnesses or conditions the following are first line agents that generally have few side effects, are inexpensive, and are not known to cause impotence.
Hydrochlorithiazide (aka HCTZ) It is in the "diuretic" classification of medications, though I have never known a patient to report that it made them go to the bathroom more. Side effect profile for HCTZ is comparable to that of a sugar pill. Once on the medication, a blood test to confirm that your electrolytes are stable should be done.
Lisinopril. It is in a class of medications called ACE inhibitors. Its primary side effect is a dry cough that develops in about 15% of people who use it. If the cough were to develop in you there are alternatives - though more expensive.
Norvasc. This medication is in a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It is probably not my first choice unless your blood pressure were substantially out of control - and yours is not - but remains an option and it is usually well tolerated especially at low dose, say 2.5mg.
I hope this is helpful. Your primary care doctor is very well equipped to advise you on which medication to would be best for you - and I would take his/her advice. Good luck

I think all medicines we take have side effects..but if I were you I would consult a specialist who can give better drugs for your own protection because hypertension is no joke! or maybe there's something wrong with your system that's why u always have a hypertension. I could say norvasc is one of the best!
