no 16g of sugar isn't much at all your body needs energy to function so does your neuron system.plus your working out a lot and burning a lot of it.

All I can say is that I'm glad I have a better understanding of diabetes than some of the 'so-called' experts here.

The type of diabetes that you, personally, are pre-disposed to is Type 2. I have little doubt that you already understand that.

What normally happens in Type 2 diabetes is that, at first, you become insulin desensitised. The cells of your body are not able to utilise the insulin that is being produced by your pancreas.

One thing that firemedic311 states, "if u were a diabetic and u wanted to eat a piece of cheesecake...THATS FINE!!!!!" is, in fact, correct if you're a Type 2 diabetic. The reasoning behind this is that by the time your blood glucose levels have risen to any degree you are again exercising, which will bring it back down.

If you do go on to develop diabetes, this doesn't mean that there aren't any risks involved with raising your blood glucose levels. You will still need to attempt to maintain as near normal blood glucose levels as you can.

For me 16 g of sugar is not too much. Sucrose, fructose, maltose, and lactose, it all breaks down into glucose and gets used as energy or converted in the liver into glycogen then if still not used (let's say the next day) it's turned into fat. You seem to have a healthy unrest with the genetic link in the familial history. Do your research at a medical library for good thorough documented info. Ask your doctor about checking you own glucose level. The monitors are available at the drug store for about 50$. Your doctor can tell you how to use it and interpret the information it gives you. You can check your blood glucose 2 - 4 times a year and gain piece of mind. The caveat to this is you got to be able to poke your finger and squeeze out a drop of blood. Yikes!

Why do you think 16 grams in your drink is the only sugar you are taking in? Do you add orange juice, fruit, pasta, rice, milk, etc. that all have sugars too. You eat and drink other foods that have sugars. If you drink soda pop you better be more honest about your sugar intake. Educate yourself on nutrition as you seem to be doing with your exercise and other physical activities. Keep active. That exercise is the best thing you can do but you still have to watch the sugars.

ahhhh i am a paramedic for the fire dept and AN EXPERT ON DIABETES!!!! ahhhh this is frustrating.

sugar alone is not the problem at all for diabetics! if u were a diabetic and u wanted to eat a piece of cheesecake...THATS FINE!!!!!

AHHH why don't doctors teach u what is really going on??? did u know in greek 'doctor' means to teach!!!

ok ok here it is.... just cuz ur dad's side has a history of diabetes mellitus doesn't mean u will get it!!!

it does mean u are predisposed to get it!... ahhh sorry i'm venting....

anyways, if u REASONABLY eat well.... and watch your intakes of EVERYTHING sugar, carbs, protein etc. you WILL BE FINE!!

diabetes just means that ur body has stopped producing and giving the right amount of insulin out after what u eat.... it has gotten 'weakened'... that means u just have to be MODERATE in what u eat.... and exercise AS EVERYONE SHOULD...... and just keep an eye on it!! thats all!!!

ahhhhh sorry. look any other specific questions please feel free to email me.

16 grams is not much sugar. !5 grams of carbs is considered to be one serving. I am diabetic and according to the diet that a dietician worked out for me I am allowed to have 17 servings of carbs per day. Each shake that you have is roughly 1 serving of carbs so it is not really very much.

well, you should just eat a bowl of fortified cereal. they have cereal with only like 3g of sugar a serving. and use soy milk, it doesn't have the milk sugar, lactose.
