Blood thinning tablets like aspirin, heparin and warfarin for example, don't in themselves cause bruising. What they do is make the person taking them much more susceptible to bruising, so that even a very slight knock will cause it.

Often the knock is so slight it goes unnoticed.

Hope that helps

people with problems of the heart are prescribed with blood thinners to prevent blood clots which may harm the lungs and the entire system if this occurs. blood thinners will cause you to bruise easily. Just be careful not to cut yourself or else that will be a problem. it will take a long time for your blood to clot when you get a cut plus it will heal slowly because of the diabetes.

I was on blood thinners for over a year, and I swear, I bruised if someone gave me a harsh look. It makes you very susceptible to bruising because the blood does not clot quickly. The bruises are not harmful, they just make you look like a bad banana.

I have been on a combination of warfarin, plavix, and aspirin after having a heart attack. Those drugs can cause even a small cut to bleed for a long time and makes it easier for you to get bruises. I actually got a bruise on my gums from using dental floss. Another thing that you would also have to be careful of is internal bleeding. If you get hit hard this can happen.

Oh yes, they certainly can. But I am sure they are monitoring his blood thinners carefully. He just needs to be a little more careful than the rest of us. A person can bleed internally too, so if he falls or something and has a lot of pain, he needs to go and get checked right away.

Good luck to you both.

people on blood thinners do bruise very easily, probably didnt even reailize it because it was so minor. diabetics need to be extra careful with injury, but heart disease I am not sure of.

Yeah, that's not good. His circulation is probably poor as well. I would report this to the doc, he may need to adjust his meds, his platelets likely are getting messed up.
