I regularly eat at a local vegetarian restaurant and I would say that about 40% of the diners are male - some of them eat there as regularly as I do. However, I can't be sure they are all veggies - it may be that the food is very tasty, nicely served and reasonably priced - but I don't think they would choose to go in there at all, if they weren't.
I know only a handful of male vegetarians, personally, and they are all pleasant, very normal blokes.
A lot of chaps feel it appears manly to eat hug steaks, lamb chops etc. In my experience, most male veggies tend to have a high level of intelligence and are prepared to act according to their conscience, rather than run with the crowd. They often have to take stick from some of their ignorant carnivore associates.

There is a perception that eating meat is macho and that vegetarian males are gay. Neither of which are true.
I'm a vegan male, and my gf is a vegan female. I am a landlord and have a vegan male (single, hetero) tenant. While there are certainly more vegetarian females than males, there are still lots of vegetarian males.
If you're looking for vegetarian men to meet I suggest veggiedate It's how I met my gf, and we've been together for 7 years now.

I'm a vegetarian male, seventeen years running, five as a vegan (no longer, but will go back to it someday). I am also a sociologist who has looked into the stigma attached to male vegetarians, often accused of being less then men.
American culture has developed this belief that men need meat, they need to provide the "bacon." Watching sports you hear commentators talk in disgust about the vegetarian athletes, adding to the stigma.
When the Celtics won the 1986 world championship there were three vegetarians on the team, Bill Walton, Robert Parish and yes, Larry Bird. Vegetarians have won titles in Boxing, and play in the NFL.
We need to remember that before refrigeration Americans did not eat close to the amount of meat they eat today. Meat was typically only enjoyed regularly by the wealthy families.
Men who are vegetarian are seen as a threat to the American way of life. We as individuals see through the social construction and realize the harm committed by a diet that is built around meat.
I am a vegetarian and proud to be one. My athletic accomplishments would dwarf many of those by people who argue against the diet, as do my academic accomplishments.
Female vegetarians dig me too, as I dig them.

I'm a vegetarian man... I don't know about the distribution of vegetarians between men and women... I think that a willingness to try different diets may lead to more women veggies. I think there's also a certain macho quality to eating meat, that may reduce the number of men who want to go veggie...

Some people believe that there's a culture surrounding meat, that to eat another animal is to take on its power and dominate it. If you notice, many of the degrading terms we men use for women are similer to how we discribe our beloved food.
For a man to escape these attitudes, he has to be secure in his masculinity. You'll often notice that Vegan men are somewhat less macho then their non-vegan peers.
I think until we realize that gender is determined by what a person feels, rather then what he does, we won't be seeing a huge increase in male vegans

I think there are fewer, but yes, there are some. I correspond with a super nice guy (he will know who I mean-hi, dear) that I met on this forumt. He has great thoughts about the whole topic. I think women are generally more health concious, and often do it for health or weight loss.
