can someone tell me what this is. i was told a few years ago when i went to pittsburgh to participate in a drug study (legal drugs oversought by the clinic, drug manufacturer and the fda). this study's physical required an ekg (electrocardiogram), they ma who was performing the procedure couldnt get the pads to stick on my body at first but eventually got them on. after the test was done she didnt know what the results were and had to see the clinics doctor about it. when she came back she told me that the doctor said i had the above condition. i was dismissed from the study and told if i wanted to do another one it would have to be one without an ekg.

i am not taking drugs for this condition, even though i should be. heart conditions are hereditary in my family.

what could cause this?

i know that not everybodys heart rates and conductions are the same.

Opus is not correct. He is suggesting that you have a atrio-ventricular block (ie, delay in conduction between the atria and the ventricles. Normally the atria contract first, then the ventricles. However, in case of an atrio-ventricular block, the contraction of both ventricles would be delayed).

However, you clearly mention that you have an intra-ventricular conduction delay- or a delay in conduction between the two ventricles. Normally, the two ventricles contract almost simultaneously. You probably have a bundle branch block of some sort (right bundle branch block, or one of the different varieties of left bundle branch block.)

In right bundle branch block, contraction of the right ventricle is delayed, and in left bundle branch block contraction of the left ventricle (or some parts of the left ventricle) is delayed.

You probably have right bundle branch block, as you weren't suggested by the study people to seriously work this up. Right bundle branch block could mean nothing, or it could mean underlying lung or heart problems.

Left bundle branch block is much more suggestive of a underlying heart defect.

In either case, you should have it followed up, as you mention that heart conditions are hereditary in your family.

It is most likely you have a heart block. It is when there is a delay of the depolarization of the ventricles. We may not know the extent of the block unless you have an ECG. If there is a hereditary heart condition in your family, have yourself checked.

Sounds like 1st degree BBB. Here's a wiki reference for more info:

Basically not much to worry about.
