Dog food contains many of the same ingredients, because dogs are omnivores, just like humans are. The huge difference is the cleanliness and health requirements in the plants that prepare the foods.
For instance in preparing a can of beef stew, see reference #1
As you can see there are standards for cleanliness, texture, flavor, by products used, etc.
These standards and regulations are very strict in the U.S. When you purchase food intended for human consumption from other countries, you cannot be assured that these standards are met.
The standards and regulations for a can of beef stew intended for animal consumption are not as strict with regard to additives and by products, and even less so with regard to foreign materials allowed (hairs, dust, etc.).
It is dangerous for humans to eat animal food (dog meat, cat tuna, etc) because of this, but not dangerous for animals to eat human food.

Yep, it's soy protein mostly considering they use the guts and stuff like that more for the pet foods but they do also put some of these into canned meats for human consumption. Like the hearts, liver and kidney. Since I don't eat any of these inside parts of animals, it's kind of a pain in the butt to have to read all the labels so I mostly cook homemade foods. I use canned products more for camping than any other time.
