Irrigation may help, but everytime I get a sinus infection, I get the Zithromax (Zmax) plus a shot of Kenalog, which helps with inflammation in the ears and nose. Ask your doctor.

According to the literature in my sinus rinse package, you shouldn't rinse your sinuses if you have a cold or infection. I have had plugged ears from alllergies and chronic sinusitis, and yes, sinus rinsing does help clear my ears. It may take a while, like a week or so, for the ears to clear completely. I recommend the NeilMed Sinus Rinse because it is SUPER easy, and not too expensive. I don't bother to boil the water like they recommend, I just use hot tap water. And I recommend doing it in the shower, so you don't see all the ooky stuff that comes out, and don't have any clean up to worry about.

this worked for me
GENERIC NAME: PSEUDOEPHEDRINE - ORAL (sue-doh-eff-ED-rin)
BRAND NAME(S): Afrin, Afrinol, Chlor-Trimeton, Novafed, Sudafed
Medication Uses | How To Use | Side Effects | Precautions | Drug Interactions | Overdose | Notes | Missed Dose | Storage
USES: Pseudoephedrine is used to provide relief from the nasal or sinus congestion caused by allergies or the common cold, or ear congestion caused by inflammation or infection.
HOW TO USE: It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication, unless your doctor instructs you to do otherwise. Sustained-release or long acting tablets and capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or crushing them will destroy the long action and may increase side effects. If symptoms do not improve after 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, notify your doctor. Do not increase the dose or take this more frequently than recommended.
