PROFESSIONAL ADVICE IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED... I realize that being seated at my desk for 3-4 hours isn't good but at my age is this normal? 35 and otherwise healthy. Not on any medications and my diet is very sodium restrictive and high in fiber. I admit that I don't drink much water perhaps 3 glasses of fluid a day. Could that be it? or is renal insufficiency possible at this age? I don't drink alcohol - perhaps a glass of wine or two bi-monthly. I do smoke about 1/2 pack of cigarettes a day... could that be causing vascular deterioration at this age? I have smoked since I was 20 so my pack history is 7.5 years. I've started to do ankle circles but so far no real notable change... HELP? Any professional advice is appreciated....

The best possible advise at the moment I can recommend is a duplex ultrasound of your lower limbs.
However taking professional help is mandatory.

There are a number of things that cause swollen legs and feet, and some of them are serious, such as renal insufficiency, heart failure, or blood clots. You really should see a doctor because he or she will be much better able to figure out what is going on in your case. See the source below for more possible causes and what kinds of things you can do at home, but you will not get a definitive answer until you go see a doctor. Good luck, and I hope it is nothing serious.

You do need professional advise however, very few MDs are sitting around answering questions on Yahoo Answer this afternoon. So, just a thought make an appointment and see a physician. FYI your condition could worsen rapidly you do not have time to mess around with this... get it taken care of right away.

Swollen legs and feet can mean u have renal insufficiency, cardiac problems or cellulitis. I encourage you to see a doctor to diagnose what is causing the edema.

you need to see your doctor and get some tests. Swollen legs can be from many things and some of them are serious. They need to do blood work to rule out diabetes and organ problems, heart tests to rule out heart failure or blockages, veinogram to rule out blood clots and vein problems, and if everything checks out negative then you would probably be diagnosed with lymphedema. Lymphedema Tarda comes on around age 35, but they would need to rule out other things before diagnosing. If you'd like to learn more, my site is http://www.lymphland.com I also have lymphedema.
