My legs and ankle is swollen. dr said it's caused from my varicose veins. I noticed by my ankle. there is a big bulge. I was wondering if it was a blood clot. It's not painful or red or warm to the touch

Yes, they can be painful. I had a patient with one and she would groan when we helped to re-position her, she said it was painful. They do not have to necessarily be painful though.
You could request your doctor do a Doppler on your leg if you want a peace of mind. If you become short of breath or just don't feel like something is right.. get it checked out!
Hope you feel better!

No

However, they are often painful if they are in a superficial vein. This is caused thrombophlebitis.

It can also be painful in the deep veins (deep vein thrombosis)

But they are not always painful, not even in either of the above mentioned conditions.

no, all blood clots are not always painful. sounds like you need to incorporate walking (if physically capable) into your daily routine. this will help with both varicose veins and swelling.

blood clots aren't always painful..sometimes the person dies first before feeling the pain, that's the case in pulmonary embolism(clot in the lungs). if your varicose veins are troubling you, get them stripped..the procedure fopr removing varicose veins.
