.Genital herpes is a common virus infection caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of this virus: types 1 and type 2. As well as the genitals, the virus can infect the anus, buttocks, top of the thighs, mouth, lips or face; infection on the lips or face results in facial herpes, which includes cold sores. These infections have an essentially identical appearance when on external surfaces.
Genital herpes Symptoms can start with tingling, itching, burning or pain followed by the appearance of painful red spots which, within a day or two, evolve through a phase of clear, fluid-filled blisters which rapidly turn whitish-yellow. The blisters burst, leaving painful ulcers that dry, scab over and heal in approximately 10 days. Sometimes the development of new blisters at the early ulcer stage can prolong the episode. On the other hand, the blister stage may be missed completely and ulcers may appear like small cuts or cracks in the skin.

Herpes outbreaks can look like a rash, pimples or blisters. They are not 'warts' (that's HPV), nor are they 'disfiguring' as they heal within a few days, usually without leaving a mark.

Do a search for 'herpes pictures' and you will find plenty of examples - however, understand that the net, like the media, loves 'sensation' so you will probably see many pics which are 'worst case' scenarios. Most people do not experience such severe symptoms, and some have no symptoms at all.

There are actually 8 different kinds of herpes in the herpes simplex virus family.

Herpes simplex virus 1 typically causes cold sores (oral herpes), but it can also cause genital herpes.

Herpes simplex virus 2 typically causes genital herpes, but it can also cause cold sores.

Herpes simplex virus 3 can cause the chicken pox and shingles.

Herpes simplex virus 4 can cause mono.

When people generally talk about herpes though, they are usually talking about either cold sores or genital herpes.

Both cold sores and genital herpes cause large painful sores. These sores can open and puss. They then scab and heal over. It can take several days to weeks for sores to disappear.

Cold sores are usually spread by kissing somone who has them. A person can also get them from sharing a drink with someone who has them, sharing lip stick, chap stick, cigarrettes, etc. Basically anything a person with cold sores has put on their lips can spread the virus if another person puts their lips on it right after them. Cold sores can also spread to the genital area causing genital herpes for a person. This is usually done by oral sex. Cold sores are not usually considered an STD because the most common way of contracting them is by kissing someone who has them.

Genital herpes is almost always spread by some sort of sexual contact (it is considered a STD). Sex (vaginal, oral and anal) and DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area can spread genital herpes. Genital herpes can also be spread to the lips and mouth area causing cold sores. Again, this is usually done by oral sex. Condoms are not 100% effective in preventing the spread of genital herpes (only abstinence is).

Herpes can also be contracted through birth. If the mother has herpes the baby can contract it from her as it is coming through the birth canal. This is VERY rare. I've read less than 1% of babies are born with herpes.

Herpes is NOT spread by a toilet, shower, sink, bathtub, etc. The virus needs DIRECT skin to skin contact to be spread.

There is NO cure for herpes, there is only treatment. Once a person contracts herpes, they will have it for life.

If you want to see what herpes look like then just do an image search using a search engine like Yahoo or Google.

Good luck!

herpes is an std. you can get it either in your mouth (fever blisters) or in your genitals... and both can go in either place (you can get oral in your genitals). the inital outbreak is usually a crusted blister on a red base. they can look like little red ulcers though... they can also come together to make larger ones. the inital breakout is usually very painful, and you can only have one sore. i'd say to google it to look for actual pictures.

well it depends on what kind of herpes you're talking about

there are 2 strains of herpes
one kind of herpes makes cold sores around the mouth

the other strain is genital herpes which makes gross disfiguring warts around the genitals
