We don't push our meat diets on them. They try to humanize animals when even God accepted animal sacrifice and Jesus ate meat. Meat is good for us if eaten properly. Animals are not wooly humans or little humans who go moo.

Well there is one place in the Bible where Abraham concluded a contract by saying "Let this rock be as a witness." I can't remember where. Some people have concluded that all of the elements have a conscious. That I have been told is why the Indians only wore moccasins on their feet so as not to hurt mother earth. You could really carry this thing to an extreme. Many people think plants have a consciousness and even talk to their cars. Seems to me if you are afraid of hurting the earth you best give up eating all together. But then look at what a useless life plants and animal would lead. What good then is a handful of dirt. I think everything on earth should be of use to someone or something.

I don't hug trees or push views on anyone, but I do have people try to convert me to eating meat. I hear this argument all the time. You tell us not to push our ideas on you, state that you don't push your ideas on us, and then list four reasons why we should eat meat. Interesting.

I hear it all the time.

I go to Subway and get veggie sandwiches and am usually asked once or twice if I'm sure I don't want meat on it. In many restaurants, there is nothing more than garden salad for me to eat (where do you think the idea that vegetarians only eat salad comes from?) Many foods that you would not expect contain meat. I know I can't go to a restaurant and order vegetable soup, cream of broccoli, etc. because it's made with a meat base. If I ask whether the soup is vegetarian, they say of course it is. Then I ask them whether it's made with a meat base and they say of course it is.

Just last week I was eating a Hostess Lemon Pie, and after finishing it I happened to glance at the ingredients and noticed that it contained BEEF FAT. Yes, beef fat in lemon pie (it's also in the apple, cherry and blueberry kinds as well.) This probably has more to do with lobbying than some conspiracy to get me to eat meet, but it's creepy at the very least.

I don't care what people eat. If you want to eat meat I won't stop you, even though I'd prefer you didn't. But it is only poverty of intellect that leads people to believe that eating meat is necessary to survival (how then do vegetarians live???) or that vegetarianism is immoral.

Also, citing religion to back up your morals is not intellectually sound.

Many meat eaters do push their meat diets on vegetarians. Sometimes vegetarians push back rather than get pushed around. If you don't push your meat diet on anyone, you deserve respect. But you might consider asking your question with sincerity and respect instead of anger and contempt, and listening to the answers. How much do you really know about what it's like to be a vegetarian in a meat eating culture?

You are hanging out with the wrong people, I guess. I've never had a vegetarian try and convert me. In fact, most of the ones I've known have been very apologetic about their diet, and say, "don't worry about the meat in the broth -- I'll be OK."

(-: OTOH, I *have* had people push meat on me! "Go on, take a bite. Have a little more. Aw, go on, have some more!" Mothers . . . what are you gonna do? I *am* an omnivore, but I'm not a vacuum cleaner!

I have a cute story. Might make you warm and fuzzy.

When my son was 5 my friend who was a born again vegetarian used to make stupid comments to him about eating animals and my son would end up in tears, really pissed me off. But one fine sunny day as they were riding down the street out comes Mr. Squirrel apparently assuming that said born again vegetarian would surely not hurt a living creature. Well sadly born again vegetarian doesn't have very good response time and runs over Mr. Squirrel. My 5 year old son inquires but....... I thought vegetarians don't kill animals? Ahhhh born again vegetarian brought to tears by a 5 year old. Good Karma Good Karma.

Please note I like you vegetarians just not the ones who make a 5 year old cry.

You can take it leave it, after all there are plenty of trees to go around and some people are so out of touch with their true selves a tree is a safe start. Did you miss out of having a pet when you were young?

Certainly not all vegetarians are that way, but you certainly feed the extremists with your intolerance and arrogance. There is no evidence in scripture that Jesus ate red meat, although he seemed to eat fish.

I've never even heard of a vegetarian who thought animals were "little humans" so do try to find a rational complaint.

Same reason as, why do republicans (and other politicians) try to push their anti-gay laws on the rest of us? Because they believe they are right, and doing it for the right cause. I do agree with being a vegetarian. Even though I am not one myself. That has actually been proven to be a healthy lifestyle. And the "pushing" is for good health reasons, and animal rights. But they should never harrass someone if they don't agree ideally with what they think.

I dont eat meat, i dont try to persuade others not to eat meat, i am the only one in my family who doesnt eat meat, and before you ask, i dont mind cooking or dealing with meat. It is not my fave thing to do, but i cope!
You see, you think you only know a few vegys, because they may pressure you into their ideas, but how do you know other people arent vegys? They may be vegy, but just dont push their ideas onto you, so you presume they are meat eater, and conclude that all vegys are pushy. That is so hard to explain! i hope you understand....
anyway, meat eaters DO try to push their ideas on to us aswell...look at the answers you get to vegy questions on here! I am constantly asked awkward q's about animals, so its not just one way.
The majority of people get along, no matter what they eat.

I'm a vegetarian. I don't hug trees. I don't push my views on others. In fact, I've been told over and over by meat-eaters that it is much healthier to eat meat. So they DO try and push their views on me.
