Wow, I didn't know that...but unfortunately it doesn't surprise me. There seems to be so much conflict of interest out there between government bodies such as the FDA and industries. It is very difficult to trust that they really test anything comprehensively before they approve it. Some of the testing for products is even done by the manufacturers or scientists hired by industry. How ridiculous is that? It seems like things get approved far too readily and they deal with any fall out later. I try to stick to the basics: organic food, natural cleaners, etc as much as possible. You can't protect your family from everything out there but when you hear things like this, it makes you want to do everything you can! Did you know in the European Union, that over 800 chemicals are banned for use in personal care products compared to less than 10 in the US/Canada? It seems we are always behind the EU on issues like this. Thanks for the heads up!

It is made from a pesticide molecule but it does not mean it is a pesticide. Look at common table salt for example. Salt is made up of sodium and chlorine. Sodium is a metal that reacts violently with water. Chlorine is a toxic green gas that was used as a chemical warfare agent in World War I. Put the two together you get salt. Sodium Chloride. When you put salt in water does it explode? No. When you eat salt (in moderated quantities) does it cause you to fall down and collapse to death? no. So basically when chemicals react with each other their properties change entirely including their toxicological ones. Yes it is true that splenda is made from toxic chemicals like phosgene and chlorine. But once the chemical react with each other they turn into a harmless substance called sucralose. So basically Splenda is made from catalytic chlorination of sugar with a phosgene catalyst. However the chemicals react together and become harmless just like sodium and chlorine in table salt. So know your chemistry before you criticize how products are manufactured. I also suggest that you look further into the research on the effects of the shrunken kidney's in the rats on google scholar. Possibly there were to many other factors that interfere with the experiment, not any controls were in the experiment, and possibly they were unable to reproduce the results. There are certain ways that experiments have to be conducted in order for the results to be considered valid. Therefore look into how the research was conducted and see if it was done properly. Email a copy of the data on google scholar of the Splenda kidney experiment and see if I can critique it.
Follow Up-There are only two ingredients in Splenda. One is sucralose which has been proven in both human and animal studies to be non-toxic. And dextrose which is simply sugar as it's right hand optical isomer. For reasons that are unknown to science, right handed optical isomers of common nutrients don't digest in the human body. So dextrose is sugar but in a form that our body can't use.
Follow Up- Another dangerously common falicy is that something that comes from nature is automaticaly safe. There are extremly dangerous chemicals like arsnic, lead, mercury, and ricin that all come from nature. Lets say if you make ricin synthetically it will still be ricin just made by man. So ricin is toxic weather it comes from the castor bean or made syntheticaly it's still ricin. Many plants produce certain chemicals as a natural self defense against pests. Therefore if they come from nature they are still toxic.

Splenda is not a pesticide. One of the ingredients used to make Splenda is also used to make pesticides. Just like one of the chemicals used to make anti-freeze is also used to make ice cream. Whether you think that is safe or not is up to you.
Heck, anything that has a colouring in it with an FD&C # only has a number because it is suspected or known to be carcinogenic.
Read 'Hard to Swallow: The Truth About Food Additives' (ISBN-978-0920470473) if you really want to know all the gory details about additives and allowable number of rat pellets and insect bits in your food (yes, there is an allowable limit, and no it isn't zero).

As they say, "Money makes the world go around." Read the book "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About". By Kevin Trudeau. This fellow has been legally fighting "them" for years & tells what he has been going through to fight injustices like this. That will really open your eyes- all proven info. If you think you're mad now, if this is all you know about this sort of thing, wait til you learn more!!! That is not all that we've been lied to about!
And yes, yes, yes! Splenda & other sweeteners are chemicals & are poison to our bodies!!! Our bodies were only designed to operate on food. Food given to us by our designer (God), not chemicals created by man. Ever wonder why so many people are dying of so many diseases? It's because of our junk food habits. Even the healthy foods have been dramatically changed by "technological advances" into poisonous foods & junk foods

All artificial sweeteners have bad side effects like that... I'd stay away from them if I were you. I say you are better off a little over weight than ingesting a bunch of bioengineered crap... I have a friend who told me about this case where a girl in her 20's died and the reason for her death was undetermined. They did an autopsy and there was a ring of jelly around her brain.. they didn't know what it was so they did a chemical analysis of it and it turned out to be aspartame... the girl drank alot of diet coke. I don't believe cause of death was ruled to be due to the aspartame, but isn't that a scary thought? I don't want a jelly ring on my brain!

Artificial sweeteners like Splenda are very very bad for anyone. They contain an ingredient called "Aspartame." There are other names like, like Sucralose. I strongly suggest you watch a movie called "Sweet Misery." In one part, it tells how a woman got sent to jail for "poisoning" her sick husband by giving him Diet Coke (which contains aspartame.
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV4ZI0rQjvk
I used to drink a lot of Diet coke, but I don't anymore. Anything that says "Sugar Free" Diet" "Light" is bad for you. Don't you think if they took the sugar out of something, that it would taste terrible? They have to put something in to compensate.
Instead of all these horrible sugar alternatives, try a natural herb called "Stevia." It's healthy and safe. Look up what you eat, there's a lot of horrible stuff in it. MSG, Aspartame, High Fructose Corn syrup, etc.
Maybe this video will explain why the FDA said it was safe (keep an open mind):

Am glad you see this. I wish so many others did. Is heartbreaking to watch people die because of their habits or use of the products that they were so not informed of. Advertising. I hate. Number one is revenue. That is all companies care about. If is not natural is toxic and deadly. Bottom line. Anyone can understand that.
