Calamari is great if prepared right and eaten immediately. Calamari, or squid rings, or squid in general, is quite tasty and has a soft chewy texture. If you let it get cold, however, it becomes rubbery and difficult to eat. Some people even dry squid like beef jerky and eat it, which is quite hard but is edible, moreso than the rubbery version.

If it's fresh, it's good. If it's not, it can be very rubbery and have an unpleasant texture. If you're not sure that the seafood at the restaurant you're going to is fresh, I'd say skip it and wait until you're going somewhere that will have fresh calamari. Or else try a calamari starter.

I really love the stuff!

Love Calamari.
Is Squid or cuttlefish. Very popular in Italy either deep fried or lightly boiled and served in a seafood salad. The black ink from this seafood is used to flavor and color both pasta and risotto.

It's not scary. It actually tastes delicious. And it's usually breaded and fried and everything so you can hardly tell that it's anything unusual anyway (although there are small tentacle bits that may look funny). The texture is a little bit chewy, but it's not gross.

Go for it! I think you'll like it. :)

It is mmmm.....delicious! Calamari al la italienne is squid rings fried in a crispy batter and dipped in pesto with pine nuts and basil. Enjoy!

Oh yes, we love it! Get the fried calamari, and hopefully it comes with a remoulade sauce. It's awesome.

It depends on where you get it. If it's good, it's great. If it's bad, well, it's still pretty good, lol.

It's best if they use young squid, because that is almost never chewy, which can happen when they just chop up larger ones. Nice crispy breading, deep fried, served with marinara sauce... I know it sounds kinda scary, but it tastes really great.

I've had great calamari and I've had average calamari. It's definitely worth trying!

Calamari rocks. The best I ever had was in Hawaii, it was so nice and fresh. The quality will depend on how fresh it is, like most things.

Delicious!! As already said, it has to be fresh and cooked to perfection, otherwise can be rubbery. It's on nearly every menu in Spain and the Canary Isles. The best I have ever had in UK was in Mevagissy, Cornwall.

I also love Octopus in vinaigrette, especially baby octopus which you can eat whole!!
