Two answers:
1.Nutrition. Fish belong to animal proteins foods same as other meats.
2. Religion aspect. Fish is not meat.Jewish laws exclude fish from meats and it treated as non meat product. Catholics do not eat meat on Friday and replace it by fish. That how America was discovered before Columbus by the Scandinavians. Due to this law there was shortage of fish in
Europe and boats were sent west for new fishing grounds
and they landed in Eastern Canada.

Well the answer depends on the nature of the question. If you mean is it animal protein, then yes it is. If you mean do we think of it the same as meat then most people do not. Fish are cold blooded and are less developed. many think they do not feel so muchg as animals and that is why many vegetarians will eat fish when they will not eat meat.
So the answer really depends on the angle you are coming from....in protein content and being good for you, its low fat and some oily fish full of healthy oils, mackerel and so on then yes, but according to some vegetarians no! We also define "flesh" as meat and fish is not flesh....
hope that helps!

Meat is muscle tissue of some animal. Fish are full of muscle tissue and the flesh of a fish is the muscle that you eat. So yes, the fish flesh is meat. It is not the same as red meat from warm blooded animals because fish are cold blooded but it is still meat.

Fish Is Meat!!!

There are many people in the world who seem to think that fish and meat are entirely different things. Well, they are just simply not right, and that is precisely what we want them to realize. That fish IS meat.

A lot of people always tells you that "Fish is NOT meat." What do they think it is? I've asked lots ofs people this question, and all they say is "It's just fish." Okay. THAT HELPS!!! Well, fish is meat. There's no doubt about it. Here is why fish is meat.

Well, if fish isn't meat, then exactly what is it? Is it a PLANT? Because it doesn't seem to be a plant . And it isn't a kind of fungus, or mushroom, or lichen, or bacteria, or any of that sort of stuff. No. It is an animal. Fish is an animal. Now, read if you will the definition of animal...

Animal: 1. A sentient living organism typically capable of voluntary motion and sensation: distinguised from plant.

Now, that certainly includes fish, doesn't it. Now, with that fact in mind, read the definition of meat...and fish....

Meat: 1. The flesh of animals used as food, esp. the flesh of mammals as opposed to fish or fowl. 2. The edible part of anything. 3. Anything eaten for nourishment, as in meat and drink.

Fish: 1. A vertebrate, cold-blooded aquatic animal with permanent gills having a typically elongate, tapering body, usu. covered with scales and provided with fins for locomotion 2. Loosely, any animal habitually living in water. 3. The flesh of fish used as food .

*Beef: the flesh of a cow used as food.
* Pork: the flesh of a pig used as food.
* Venison: the flesh of a deer used as food.
* Fishmeat: the flesh of a fish used as meat.

Now, nobody will dispute that the first three are meat. But what about the fourth. Fishmeat. Well, let us call fishmeat fish again. Do people think that fish is not meat, simply because the name the meat is called (e.g. beef, pork, venison...), just so happens to be the same as the name of the animal? Well, this is just silly. If we were to call beef cow instead of beef, would it make cow not a type of meat? Come on people. Fish and fish are two different words which just happen to have the same spelling. And if you are going to say that fish is just fish because of this, then you also have to say that beef is not meat, it's just beef. So, meat wouldn't even exist would it. I suppose this would make vegetarians happy...

In cuisine, fish is not considered meat. Meat is the flesh of mammals, fowl is the flesh of birds, and fish is the flesh of fish. True, it is the "meat" of the fish, but one can eat fish on Friday when one is discouraged from eating meat (ok, I know that's old school). Culturally, fish and meat are thought of as being different.

Whole foods are either plant or animal. If they are animal in source, then the flesh is meat. For mammals, the fluids produced to nurse their young is milk.

Of course fish is meat. What else would it be? You still have to murder something with a nervous system in order to eat the stuff.

To some people, like the Catholics, who didn't eat meat on Friday, it wasn't. That's why there is a friday fish fry. To me, it is, because it just fits the definition of meat. It's all the flesh of the animal.

Depends who does the classification.
biologically speaking, fish is meat, as it has muscle tissue. It is also alive, so vegetarians (at least those who do it because of their beliefs) do not eat it.
Most religions, however, do not consider it meat. Catholicism, Greek and Eastern Orthodox Christian Churches, Judaism, and Islam all consider it a neutral food, not a meat- that is why it is allowed during lent, and it's considered kosher to mix it with dairy.

Yes, fish is meat - it is the muscle (flesh) of a living vertebrate...they also have blood, just like all vertebrates. This idea that there is "white meat" and "red meat" is stupid.
