saline nasal spray is sterile water and salt-it's used to moisten and flush out the sinus cavities & yes it works-unless you have a medicated nasal spray, there's nothing more in it than that

I don't know if you are asking about this in relation to sinus issues but I've heard that saline nasal spray can be of help to clearing up some of the sinus issues.

I personally have terrible nose allergy problem, every now and then I will get airway infection. My family doctor did give me the nasal spray and I tried using it daily as per his advice but it is not helping. Till I met another doctor in US, he told me that best way is to wash ur nose with light salted water daily. That will prevent germs "growing" inside. I tried and it worked. Though it cannot be stopped, if I get lazy and stop washing it for a few days I will get the infection again.

Well, saline is basically just salt water ... so it would moisturize and soothe dry or irritated nasal passages... so no, it's not just a "placebo".
