tried Mucinex and some other remedies but nothing seems to work. She's made an appointment to see the Doctor but meanwhile, she's looking for a home remedy to relieve the dioscomfort she's experiencing. No breathing problems.

Now is not the time to be looking for home remedies. This is serious. She probably has pneumonia and needs an antibiotic. No home remedy can remove the bacteria, which is what's causing the problem, and moisturizing and other activities may feed the infection. In addition, home remedies may mask the symptoms and leave the underlying condition active, causing further damage to her lungs. Do not listen to the witch doctors on here... you need something real. I know they're going to go ape-shwat on me now, but the herbalists really need to stay away from medical conditions and stick to making food taste better. Most of the time it does more harm than good, and people avoid getting proper treatment because they think the alternative thing is working. An x-ray can diagnose the problem, but my guess is "walking pneumonia"

Unfortunately you haven't mentioned on other important details like persistent cough, coughing mucus, physical change on your mom's tonsil etc.

If yes, these symptoms may be from BRONCHITIS, PNEUMONIA or POST-NASAL DRIP.

NOTE: I don't guarantee accuracy, but do take your doctor's appointment seriously!
Be careful, in case your mom has one of those, take care bcoz these are contagious!

It's a good idea for the patient to get plenty of rest, drink lots of noncaffeinated fluids (for example, water and fruit juices) and increase the humidity in your environment.

Because acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses, antibiotics (medicines that kill bacteria) usually do not help. Even if you cough up mucus that is colored or thick, antibiotics probably won’t help you get better any faster.

If you smoke, you should cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke, or stop smoking altogether. This will help your bronchial tree heal faster.

For some people with acute bronchitis, doctors prescribe medicines that are usually used to treat asthma. These medicines can help open the bronchial tubes and clear out mucus. They are usually given with an inhaler. An inhaler sprays the medicine right into the bronchial tree. Your doctor will decide if this treatment is right for you

Does she cough when she lays down? Is her energy level less than it used to be? If so, it could be edema around the lungs, which has many causes. Edema is a buildup of fluid which gives symptoms similar to congestion. It can be associated with Congestive Heart Failure (worst case scenario -- not common).

Don't try basically random home/herbal remedies without a better idea of what the problem is. You can easily do more harm than good. If the discomfort is high and the MD app't is still off in the future, try calling your clinic's Triage Nurse to see if they can help narrow it down... if they are concerned, they might be able to move her app't up...
Best wishes,

Use tea tree oil in a container of steaming hot water and have her lean over it and take in the steam. You mention that she has had this for months so next time be sure you make her see the doc sooner when she has a problem. Sounds like this could be serious if she has had it that long.

I would ask if she is retaining water or swelling in her legs or feet? If she does, she may have a bit of congestive heart failure. It could be asthma, if she has seasonal allergy problems, either way she needs to follow up with the doctor...good luck

Go to www.amazon.com and get a neti pot. She can use that to literally clean her sinuses on a daily basis, and she will never have that problem again.
