You can't just suddenly lower your blood pressure tonight.
You should call your doctor in the morning and make an appointment to get medications for your blood pressure or to adjust them if you are already on medicine.

Some good ideas for the long term include low salt diet, regular exercise (walking is great!), getting enough sleep, and meditation/and or prayer in your faith tradition.

You don't say if you are pregnant (If you are, call your OB now) You don't say if you are having any unusual symptoms like severe headache or chest pain (if you are, go to ER)

Assuming this is just a high blood pressure you just found with a blood pressure check, just make an appointment to get it treated. So relax, get your appointment, and do what your doc says you will be fine.

Blood pressure can vary widely over the course of a day. Take more readings over several days or longer. A doctor will not diagnose anything based on one reading. Also, try using a different BP monitoring device to make sure the one you were using is accurate .

I went to the doctor today, and they were concerned because my BP averaged 150/100 at the start of my exam. It dropped to 140/90 a little later and possibly would have dropped more if I had stayed longer. I'm going to have to monitor my BP for several weeks, and if it is higher than 140/90 a majority of the time, I will need to go back to the doctor to figure out what the problem is.

I am going to get a BP monitor. Here is a website that evaluates different home BP monitoring devices, and you may also want to consider getting one.

Deep breathing and meditation can lower BP. I just pictured my BP going down in my mind, and it started to drop. While doing stuff like meditation, exercise, and changing your diet may ultimately not be enough to lower your BP, such actions are a good place to start. No one needs to be on medication if other measures can be used to control BP. Doctors probably don't want to put someone on a medication just so that patient can maintain an unhealthy lifestyle and habits.

Your blood pressure is high and you need to call your doctor and make an appointment to be seen tommorrow or as soon as possible.
Your blood pressure does not warrant a trip to the emergency room or a call to 911.
I am assuming you took your own blood pressure somewhere and have it written down. It would not be a bad idea for you to check your blood pressure every day probably 1st thing in the morning would be best. Write your pressures down and take the list with you to the doctor.
PS: I am a Registered Nurse and work in a hospital for 12 yrs currently have 3 days off.

What is your normal blood pressure? Are you worried about something or stressed? If this is not a normal blood pressure for you. I would start keeping a record of what your blood pressure is. Then go see your doctor about it if it is like it is. I don't see a need to go to the emergency room or call 911. My dad's blood pressure has been the same as your's and he's on blood pressure medicine. When his is high he goes for a walk and that brings it down. He takes his at six am, seven am, five pm and ten pm. If your already on medicine for your blood pressure your doctor could adjust it. If your worried or stressed try to take your mind off your worry and stress. Take care.

Don't drink caffeine or energy drinks! Both of these jump your pressure up a lot.
Unless you have medicine, laying down is about the only way to get it reasonably lower. That's about what mine runs without a ton of medicine, along with a 105 pulse rate. If you have medicine, tke it in the amount your doctor says to and when he says EVERY day.

Rest, de-stress, change your diet (less salt, fat), exercise. Also, make sure you are taking it correctly. Follow the instructions that come with the machine to a fault. Try it in the other arm as well. Make an appointment with your family doctor to see if you may need to be placed on meds, if it's continually high. That bp won't kill you tonight. In fact, when people come to my ER with hypertension, we are allowed to let patients go home when diastolic is less than 110 and systolic is less than 160.

make sure your blood pressure machine is accurate. relax, quit drinking caffeine and eating chocolate, and call your doctor in the morning.
