my fiance's mother used to have a weak heart and she does have hypertension (high blood pressure) most of the time. i want to know how to take care of someone who has hypertension. im afraid that hypertension is known to be a silent killer, and anytime it could attack you. what food should she eat to avoid hypertension? what foods not to eat? is there any exercise? she tends to get hypertension when she gets tired and a hot climate becoz right now is summer here in the philippines.
the medicine are kinda expensive and so the continuous check ups. we just want to avoid the disease becoz we dont want anything bad to happen to my fiance's mother and we are considering the budget too for our wedding.

by the way she is thin. i forgot to tell you. i know that its her life but i need to find ways to avoid that because she suffers a lot and we cant provide enough money for her expenses. we are saving for our wedding and any time it would need for us to spend it when she needed it most. we want her to get well. im not selfish and im just concern about her and our future together. anybody wouldn't want to spend money everyday when you can avoid things to happen. anyways tnx for all.

Low salt diet is good for her, check for sodium on all of the food she eats. Low sodium.
Check and see if she can get generic medicine. Hydrochlorothiazide is cheap, and she could use that and eat a banana every day it might work for her. Ask for generic medicine.
The "silent killer" just means that the pressure over the years increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The control of the pressure with the medicine helps reduce that risk. Don't stress or freak out, high blood pressure is super common and the best treatment is just to control it with a pill and watch the salt in the diet. Other things to help might be regular walking exercise, and meditation might help as well. Have her avoid saturated fats, too.

Used to have a weak heart? I don't understand how that could change. Hypertension can stress the heart and vessels, cause a stroke or heart attack. It is called the silent killer because you do not always know that you have high blood pressure if you don't get it checked. There are not sure signs or symptoms. Some might get a headache, but not always.
My advice is to check it often and see if it is high enough to need a medicine. Not all are expensive, but if she needs one, then you need to try to get it and start it now, take it everyday even if she feels fine. Next, most doctors will advise exercise like walking, lose excess weight and avoid salt in foods. If after a time of doing these things, her BP comes down lower, then perhaps she will not need the med.
One more thing, having money to budget for her med and an annual check up doesn't even compare to a wedding in my opinion. It's her LIFE..

I have lived with Hypertension for about 20 years now. The things that should be avoided that increase hypertension are coffee and cigarrettes. These two alone are your worst nightmare if you have High Blood Pressure. Any type of exercise is good. Start slowly at first and gradually increase, just try not to overdo it. As far as food goes, avoid salt if possible. If she has to have it, limit how much she uses. Avoid fried and or high fat foods. I too take medicaiton to control mine and so far its been working. Good Luck with her and I hope she lives a long beautiful life. Cheers!

Low stress environment, try to keep her calm & at ease. She needs to eat foods that are low in sodium (salt), also watch out for hidden sodium in drinks. Diet soft drinks are loaded with it! don't let her eat anything that is pickled or is in vineager. Vineager is salt. No processed foods, they are loaded with sodium. If she is overweight, she needs to lose weight. & no matter what, make sure that she stays on her meds & monitors her BP.
