RSV is a virus which attacks the infants (under 2-3 yrs) respiratory system and often causes bronchioliltis. For some reason infants don't get bronchitis but bronchiolitis. The fact that a baby gets RSV or bronchiolitis does not mean your child will develop asthma nor allergies. Adults get RSV, but they don't get bronchiolitis; they just develop a bad cold. Doctors don't prescribe antibiotics for viruses, but may give antibiotics for a simultaneus bacterial infection.

You did the right thing by taking your baby to the ER. Bronchospasms are considered a medical emergency, specially in babies. You can find more information on asthma in infants at the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America site www.aafa.org

Albuterol can be given in different forms-- as a syrup, through an inhaler or through a nebulizer treatment. The breathing treatment given to your son probably contains albuterol/levalbuterol (Proventil /Xopenex) or some type of corticosteroid like Pulmicort respules. The pediatrician probably thought the breathing treatment would deliver the medicine in a more efficient manner.

Hope your baby boy feels better soon.
My first daughter was hospitalized with an RSV bronchiolitis for 8 days when she was 6 mos old. She is doing great now.

Well, one of things things that your doctors told you is probably right. RSV, pneumonia and bronchitis are all respiratory infections. The albuterol is a broncodialator. It can be given in infants orally or in breathing treatments. It helps open up the airway to ease breathing. At 5 months and having these problems, asthma is a good possibility down the road for him. Does anyone in the house smoke? That could also compromise the airway. Make sure to follow up with your doctor as directed. If he starts to have any labored breathing, flaring nostrils, blueish color around lips or worsening wheezing, take him back to the emergency room.

Ignore the folks screaming approximately consuming solids, began my boy at four months in view that he used to be already consuming 32 ozor extra of components an afternoon. He's 6 months and doing nice. However I could no longer feed child solids correct earlier than bedtime. Do it a pair hours earlier than mattress after which simply deliver a massive bottle at bedtime. Vegetables motive gasoline pains and laying down correct after consuming solids is not well for any person, adding adults! My boy eats his diner of solids round five:30pm after which is going down for the night time at 8pm with a 6-eight ozfeeding of components and it is 50/50 correct now if he will sleep by way of the night time or wake for one bottle round 4am. He nonetheless wakes up approximately an hour or so after going to mattress and fusses till I arise and pat his again. Part separation anxiousness, aspect him hoping he used to be simply taking place for a snooze! If it isn't the solids inflicting gasoline, then it is a well danger it's separation anxiousness and handiest time and persistence gets you by way of that. edit - ignored the breastfeeding aspect - so alternatively of a massive bottle earlier than mattress, deliver him the boob!
