Aside from what has been said, I do NOT believe Splenda is "the best". Why? It has only been on the market for a short period of time, and we have not studied it's long term effects.

Also, some diabetics (Usually Type 1's) find that Splenda and/or the maltrodextrin added to it causes blood sugars to rise hours later. This may because some are able to break the chlorine bonding, and convert the molecule back to glucose. Also, side effects have been reported for Splenda as well, such as headaches, fatigue, nausea, etc.

The jury is out on aspartame. Most studies prove it safe in small amounts. There is some conflicting evidence on this. Saccharine has been shown to cause cancer, but only in lab rats given *extremely* large amounts.

We do not have enough evidence in any of these cases to say for certain they are 100% safe or harmful. As I have mentioned before, scientific data can change.

Some people may also be more sensitive to food additives and artificial sweeteners.

For someone with Type 2 diabetes, especially if diet controlled, sweeteners can be very helpful in helping you maintain control without giving up certain foods.

On the other hand, there *may* be acute and long-term risks in some people.

My advice is to:

-Restrict the amount of ANY sweetner you use. It is not a healthy necessary food group. 5 packages is a LOT, even if considered "safe".

-Use natural non-caloric herbal sweetners like Stevia. You can buy this from the health food store.

-Work on replacing coffee, pop, etc with water and vegetable juice.

As the other answer said, Splenda is the best artificial sweetener to use. It is made by removing one part of a sugar compound and replacing it with chlorine. Some people have issues with other artificial sweeteners. It caused headaches in some people. Stay away from saccharine, it has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats. Other than that, all food products, including artificial sweeteners are regulated by the FDA. If the substance causes cancer in ANY animal is is NOT allowed to be used in food for human consumption.

The doctors say that Splenda is the best sweetener for diabetics. It is O.K. to use, but I wouldn't use so much. Cut down gradually. Not all at once, because you will be like....yuck, and pour it all in.

they all taste horrible, but everyone seems to claim that splenda is the best. there were some studies that claimed there was evidence that consuming aspartame could have negative effects in tthe long run but it is still approved by the FDA to my knowledge. but most of these seem to be biased.

YES!!! Anything synthetic isn't well for you. Regular sugar isn't as unhealthy as they are saying it's. Check out the internet site beneath. Dr. Mercola had an overly well choice treatment website.
