If the herpes is active near the time of delivery and there is a test to determine then a c-section is what is done....a baby can be blinded by passing through canal of a mother with herpes...It is better to be safe than risk that....If you are not already pregnant this is a good question for you to ask your doctor...

i did my rotation in labor and delivery and i can tell you that 60% of the women had herpes. The majority had vaginal deliveries except for a few who had other medical conditions that resulted in scheduled c sections. unless your actively having an outbreak the chances are very slim that your baby will get it. im sure you and your baby will be fine but make sure you tell your ob gyn. the eye antibiotic they put on the babies eyes after birth would have no effect on the herpes bc it is a virus.

only if the Mom is in a active sate at the time of delivery. They have drops that the put in the babies eyes to protect them. C-section is always and option. I DO NOT support C-Section procedure however, unless medically necessary

I recommend a C-Section. Because even if you don't have an active disease you can still pass it to your new born. Talk to your doctor.
