I think you'd know immediately after he said you had crabs that it was the intense itching in your private parts.
If your doctor dianosed it at crabs then surely he Rx a cure. Or maybe he just liked the view?
Crabs are not body lice or head lice or seam lice or scabies, they hang onto a specific type of hair that is grow only down south in your pants. Head lice have little claws that can hang onto the type of hairs grown on your head. These have claws that can only hang onto, well, different types of hair grown on different parts of the body.
A natural way to remove external parasites is lavender oil. Take about 6 to 12 drops of pure lavender oil to about twice as much olive oil. Apply to affected area overnight. This will not burn your skin or cause potential long term damage as is possible, as so some say, with Lindane lotions.
Change the bed clothes often, change underwear often and after the symptoms end, abstain from being intimate with anyone for about a week to insure that all of them have died out. Apply nightly for about 3 to 5 days during the teatment and it will work.
Lavender oil is good for many things including burns, parasites, insomnia and several other little bothersome problems in life.

Small body lice that live under the arm pits, groin area and in the hair, You can get them through any kind of body contact, wearing some ones clothes that has them,or from a toilet seat.. Go to the drug store and they can give you something that will take care of the problem. They were very prevalent in the overseas army in World War One. They had a poem about them,
Don't stand on the toilet seat,
The crabs here jump 15 feet.
In short; they are contagious. They are very easily passed from one to another.

~ You will need to wash all you bedding using HOT cycle for both washer and drier as well as all the clothing you have been wearing.
~Your bed mattress should also be sprayed with a lice killing spray. You can buy this at pharmacies.
~*~ You really should treat you head hair as well. Aslo informing you sexual partener so he or she can be treated as well. You CAN see them. They are NOT the size of a pinhead. Only the babies are very small.

Why didn't you ask your doctor? I'm pretty sure a professional doctor wouldn't call them CRABS but who knows. They are lice, bugs, that live in your pubic area. Shave off the hair and get an over the counter medicated lice shampoo.

Your doctor is referring to a type of body lice which infest the pubic area. If you look at the enlarged photo here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_lice
you will see why they are called "crabs."
You can catch them from sitting on an infested surface (even with your clothes on) or from having genital contact with an infested person.
Not only do you have to get rid of them on your body, you have to get rid of them (and their eggs) in your clothes, sheets, car seats, and sofas.
I am not a doctor, and I cannot recommend any treatment. However, I can tell you that I know people who are too poor to go to the doctor or buy the treatments doctors prescribe have successfully used Hartz Mountain Flea and Tick Spray to kill them. This is available in most grocery stores and all pet stores.

They are pubic lice. Scientific name phthiris pubis. They kind of look like crabs or lobsters. They have claws that are spaced at about the same distance as pubic hairs. So one claw hangs onto each of two pubic hairs. (see picture links below) They then suck blood from the skin and defecate. This combination creates itching.
They are spread by sexual contact.
Treatment is by putting on a medical insecticide called Kwell.

When someone says they have "crabs," they are talking about a particular type of parasite infection. Crabs is the common term for lice found in the pubic hair of humans. Barely the size of a pinhead, lice are organisms that live only with the help of another organism, called a host. There are thousands of types of lice—some only infect horse ears—and unfortunately, some have developed an attraction to humans. The official name for pubic lice is Pthirus pubis. Other lice that often infect humans are Pediculus humanus capitis (head lice) and Pediculus humanus corporis (body lice). The term "crabs" seems to come from the microscopic appearance of the pubic louse.
The source of infection for pubic lice is intimate contact with an infected person; therefore, pubic lice are often transmitted during sex.
Crabs are transmitted through intimate contact. Actual sexual intercourse is not necessary.
You may acquire an infection by being close to an infected person or by sharing bedding or towels.
The main symptoms of infection are itching and burning of the pubic area.
The itching may spread as the pubic lice move to other moist areas such as the armpit.
Many people who have crabs say the itching is worse at night.
Self-Care at Home
Definitive treatment comes from the following drugs:
Permethrin 5% (Elimite, Acticin): Be sure to get the 5% cream formula because crabs may be resistant to the 1% liquid form (Nix).
Apply to affected area and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water afterward.
Avoid mucous membranes, which are found at the tip of the penis and the opening of the vagina.
Repeat anti-lice treatment in 7-10 days to kill nits that may have hatched.
Lindane (Kwell): An alternative treatment when Elimite is not available.
Apply for 10 minutes then rinse with warm water.
Lindane should not be used on children. (In the state of California it may soon be impossible to purchase lindane because there is a pending bill to ban its use.)
If it is used, follow the same precautions as for Elimite.
Repeat anti-lice treatment in 7-10 days to kill nits that may have hatched.
Use over-the-counter antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) for itching.
Combing hair is important to remove eggs. A variety of combs are available commercially. They are sold in most drugstores and online. A popular model is the LiceMeister, which is a product of the National Pediculosis Association.
Some doctors recommend trimming your pubic hair with a nonsharp electric razor in order to cut the number of lice and eggs present.
