Mold can certainly cause asthma and other lung conditions. But continued exposure to black mold may cause on going health problems.

Black mold is a dark greenish/black colour, and can grow any thing porous, prone to area's of high humidity, or places of frequent floods etc.

I think black mold has to specially treated to remove it properly, or it may reoccur. As for carpet it will have to be removed, and replaced.

Wheezing
Stuffy or runny nose
Itchy, watery eyes
Rash or hives
