I suspect it isn't the diabetes, at least directly. I've never heard of a diabetic losing hair as a result of having diabetes.

It may be due to the stress she feels as a result of having to come to terms with her condition. She should consult her Dr. if she is concerned.

Diabetes can affect so many things in the human body. From the condition of ur skin to the way a person acts. Have her sugars been in good control? I ve been diabetic for over 24 years, when I first found out I was diabetic I had long thich hair which changed to thin fine hair, and wouldn't grow past my shoulders. Then I finally was under control and it all started to even out. My hair now grows past the middle of my back and is thickening up. A good indicater too is to check her fingernails. Is she constantly breaking them? Do they look thick and dicolored or even thin and flimsy. Have a Hemoglobin A1C done. It will check how her sugars have been running over the last 6 months. Start there, if that isn't any help them you may want to talk to a dermatologist. Maybe she has a skin condition on her scalp.

My mother has been a diabetic since I was born (27 years ago) and she has had a lot of issues because of it. Her hair started thinning out a lot around 15 years ago (my mother is 44 so this started happening at a very young age for her). I asked her why her hair had fallen out and she told me that her doctor said it had to do with the combination of medications she was on. Loosing hair is a side effect of the meds, not so much the diabetes. She may want to talk to the doctor about changing her medications, this is what helped my mother grow some of her hair back.

She should not be losing hair. She needs to ask her Doctor about it. It may be the meds mixing together. Check with the doctor.
