Amoxycillin has similarities to penicillin and should be avoided in people with a penicillin allergy. Many people who think they have an allergy don't (eg got the runs, this is normal) however a true penicillin allergy can be life threatening. You need to speak to the prescribing doctor to double check before she takes it.

Basically penicillins are group of antibiotics commonly used for most infections, It includes, penicillin V, amoxicillin, ampicillin , flucloxacillin etc, Commonly if you are allergic to one of them, you avoid all of them at all cost as resulting allergic reaction could be dangerous. Did your doctor know that she is allergic to penicillin, I presume if he did, he may have prescribed alternative, such as erythromycin or similar medication.
More importantly how sure are you about allergy to penicillin, did she come out in rash or did it make her unwell when she took it before, many a times you only get minor side-effects rather than being allergic to the medication, so its important to differentiate between penicillin allergy(avoid all penicillins ) or any side- effects (could be diarrhoea, nausea, tummy upset) where its ok to try it again with doctors permission.

Just been prescribed amoxicillen myself, today. Was asked if if i was allergic to penicillen (which i'm not) before they would prescribe it to me. So i would definitely check it out with your doctor.

A number of issues. Firstly amoxicillin is a penicillin and cannot be given to those with a penicillin allergy.
Next answer is STATISTICAL ONLY and cannot be applied to your daughter specifically, it can only be a generalisation!
Asthmatics get chesty due to their asthma, they are no more likely to get bacterial chest infections requiring antibiotics that any other children. Bacterial chest infections in children are nearly as uncommon as hens' teeth.
Many doctors still give antibiotics to everyone with a cough.

DONT GIVE IT TO HER,it is penicillin, your g.p shouldnt have prescribed anything with penicillin in it if she has an allergy to it as it can be life threatening.Go back to your gp and ask to have it changed,im allergic to penicillin and on my notes at my surgery it is written in bold red that im allergic to it so mistakes arent made.Your gp should be more careful with the job he is paid to do.all best to you both

I'm allergic to Penicillin. Amoxycillin is similar. Erythromycin would be better. Surely the doctor is aware of your daughter's allergy?

No,she can not take amoxicillen. My daughter is also alergic to penicillen and can't take anything thats even close to it or sounds like it.She has asthma also.Your doctor should have known this and should have never given her that. Its very dangerous for her.
