I have just returned from the Mayo Clinic and was diagnosed with this. I have had 5 heart stents and had been diagnosed with Lupus as well. I have high Cholesterol even with diet & exercise and have not been really tolerant of any statins as of this date. At Mayo, they ran tests and stated I did not have Lupus but the above problem. I was started on 9 g. of L-Arginine and immediately the pain was much better. However, I developed either GERD or Esophogeal Spasms and couldn't eat or drink. I stopped the Arginine and immediately improved. I cannot get my Dr. at Mayo to call me back so am unsure what to do?????? Any ideas? Thank you.

Arteries are lined by a single cell layer called the endothelium. If stripped out, and compacted, it would be the size and weight of the liver. the endothelium is active tissue and prone to develop inflammation which ultimately leads to cholesterol deposits under the endothelium

Arteriosclerosis is, in essence, endothelial dysfunction.

Google "Stephen Nissan MD" - he is the current expert at the cleveland clinic and there should be lots of references.
