Pho is a little overrated and cliche, plus most restaurants put ALOT of msg in the broth...not good. If you want a good intro to vietnamese food, try caramel fish, or ca kho. There is actually a restaurant in San francisco that serves this as its special, and alot of celebrities go there.
Personally I like cha ca hanoi, which is basically bbq fish hanoi style. They spice it up with tumeric and other seasonings and they serve it to you piping hot on a sizzling griddle with noodles herbs and shrimp crackers. Mmmmm....

My personal favorite is Bun Rieu with tofu added in. My husband is viet so I eat a lot of viet dishes. His favorite is Pho Dac Biet and Banh Mi. Theres also a great pork dish here in New Orleans called Com Bi Suon Cha Chung. Its got a somewhat same name in other restaurants but ask for Com Bi Suon and most viets know what ur wantin. Oh and if your somwhat new to vietnamese food ask for Pho Bo Kho also known as Hieu Tieu Bo Kho. It has pho noodles added to a vietnamese beef stew. Its close to the taste of american beef stew.

Love it! My fave is pho bo, beef rice noodle soup, but I like everything I have ever eaten at Vietnamese restaurants.

yes i love vietnamese food. i like the rice dish with the barbeque pork and spring rolls. mmm. i esp love the fish sauce that comes with the rice platter. i put fish sauce on everything cause it's sooo goood tee-hee.
